Back in 2012, Bill Metzger and Matt Conron purchased beloved neighborhood Irish pub Gene McCarthy’s, with hopes to eventually establish a brewery there. In January of 2014, the beer began to flow as their concoction hit the front of their bar.
Conron and Metzger, nicknamed “Beer Messiah”, had crossed paths many times before coming together. Conron had a background in brewing from when Colorado based brewery Breckenridge Brewing had been on Main St. during the late 90’s.
Old First Ward Brewery has managed to grow quite a bit over the years. Initially only serving three beers, OFW has released a multitude of different beers and has a quaint beer garden perfect for a nice day!
