SUMMARY:“ALL BAD TOUR” – NICK SHOULDERS AND THE OKAY CRAWDAD
DESCRIPTION:Twenty6 Productions and DSP Present: \n“All Bad Tour” – Nick Shoulders and The Okay Crawdad on Friday October 28th\, 2023! \nNick Shoulders \nAll Bad\, the latest album from Nick Shoulders\, ultimately encapsulates everything that makesShoulders’ inimitable form of country music so vital: a heady balance of dazzling musicianship and punk defiance\, coupled with gritty eccentricity and a generational connection to the roots of the genre. With a singing style inherited from his family’s vocal lineage\, Nick’s songs achieve the rare feat of imparting difficult truths while inciting a certain joyful abandon\, balancing a sound forged by years of hard travel with a heartfelt reverence for the origins of country music. In the spirit of HazelDickens and Jimmy Driftwood\, the incisive yet wildly jubilant All Bad vocally objects to the reckless destruction of the natural landscape and development run rampant\, while still offering plenty of joy and dance-ready rhythms. Spanning a variety of early country styles\, the album’s infectious harmonies shine alongside everything from jangling cajun waltzes to surf-rock infused bluesy ballads–all tied together by a voice seemingly out of place in this century\, yet ever ready to speak up about its problems. \nReleased via Gar Hole Records (a label founded and co-owned by Shoulders)\, All Bad marks the first LP made with his longtime band\, the Okay Crawdad\, since 2019’s premier full-length Okay\,Crawdad and their subsequent pandemic-imposed hiatus. After writing most of the album from the front seat of a tour van\, the Fayetteville\, AR-based musician and bandmates Grant D’Aubin (harmonies/bass)\, Cheech Moosekian (drums) and Jack Studer (lead guitar) recorded the album in a home studio on the banks of the Mississippi River with New Orleans collaborators Ross Farbe and Sam Doores. \nSurrounded by a singing style passed down from a time before microphones\, Nick’s childhood of bird call whistles and an over-exposure to southern gospel music eventually steered him toward an adolescence drumming for metal and punk bands\, and subsequent years as an active illustrator and member of Arkansas’s heavy music scene. After numerous personal calamities and a growing obsession with the rural musical traditions of his lifelong home\, Shoulders left the Ozarks and lived out of his van\, singing on the street corners of the west while slowly being drawn to the vibrance of the New Orleans dance and busking world. After forming in early 2018\, the ‘Okay Crawdad’ band flourished briefly in the wildly talented south Louisiana alt-country scene\, culminating in the release of ‘Rather Low’ by the popular YouTube channel Western AF\, catapulting Nick’s songs to a vastly wider audience right as Covid-19 and lockdowns ensued. Since then\, a rapid ascension into the world of touring music has seen Nick playing alongside the likes of Sierra Ferrell and at major festivals such as Stagecoach. With the hard rhythms and heavenly melodies of their newest release\,All Bad\, the band manages to concoct a body of work that is at turns sublimely freewheeling and profoundly illuminating\, yet primed to permanently warp the listener’s perspective to glorious effect. \nBuffalo Iron Works \n49 Illinois St Buffalo\, NY 14203 \nTickets: $20 ADV/$25 DOS \nDoors: 7:00pm \nShow: 8:00pm \nAges: 18+

SUMMARY:Rachmaninoff Festival: Piano No. 3
DESCRIPTION:Rachmaninoff Festival: Piano No. 3\nOur two-weekend festival recognizing the 150th anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s birth is anchored by the return of young phenom\, Alexander Malofeev performing the stamina-challenging\, imposing Third Piano Concerto in a program that includes the composer’s hypnotic Vocalise and the haunting tone poem\, Isle of the Dead. \nThe Coffee Concert Series is presented by Highmark \nProgram\nJoAnn Falletta\, conductor\nAlexander Malofeev\, piano \nRACHMANINOFF Vocalise\nRACHMANINOFF Isle of the Dead\nRACHMANINOFF Piano Concerto No. 3 \nAbout Alexander Malofeev\nThe young “Russian genius” (Corriere della Sera) came to international prominence when\, in 2014\, he won the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians at age thirteen. “Contrary to what could be expected of a youngster…he demonstrated not only high technical accuracy but also an incredible maturity. Crystal clear sounds and perfect balance revealed his exceptional ability” (Amadeus). Malofeev has quickly established himself as one of the most prominent pianists of his generation. His performances have garnered high praise from critics\, with publications such as Der Standard declaring his debut at the Musikverein as a “world piano revolution.” \nFor the 2023-2024 season\, highlights include Malofeev’s return to the Bournemouth Symphony for a multi-concert residency\, a solo tour in China\, and a European tour with Filarmonica della Scala and Riccardo Chailly\, as well as performances at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw\, Munich Isarphilharmonie\, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg\, and Carnegie Hall in New York. SUMMARY:MUST DIE! – VAMPIRE WEAPON TOUR
DESCRIPTION:MNM Presents\nMust Die!\nVampire Weapon Tour\nFriday November 3\nBuffalo Iron Works\nw/ special guest Tisoki\nplus Togeki\, Smileysfate\nMust Die!\nmustdiemusic.com\ntwitter.com/mustdiemusic\ninstagram.com/mustdiemusic\nsoundcloud.com/mustdiemusic \nActing as a rebellious force and the main antagonist of bass music\, there’s no one like MUST DIE!. Between his eccentric state of mind and cutting-edge mettle in the studio\, MUST DIE! caters to an audience with a penchant for forward-thinking sounds that will both challenge and dignify dubstep as we know it. With nearly 10 years under his belt\, MUST DIE! began building his cult with consistent releases on bass music’s most notable labels\, leading him to represent Never Say Die’s prestigious roster. \nHailed as a trendsetter within electronic music\, MUST DIE! reaches beyond the scope of dubstep with each release — his 2014 debut record\, Death & Magic\, set the precedent for his future in dance music\, offering listeners a new take on genres including dubstep\, electro house\, drum and bass\, and more. The start of 2019 established a new era of MUST DIE! with the release of his genre-bending singles “BLISS 2K” and “CHAOS.” Both singles landing at #1 on the Beatport Dubstep Top 100 and reaching over 1 million streams on Spotify\, MUST DIE! sparked a new trend in bass music\, introducing classic rave elements and hard dance components to his catalogue. This year\, MUST DIE! has continued his trend of raising the bar within dance music as he skyrockets off the back of two huge collaborations with Eptic and Zomboy – “Skill Check” and “Last One Standing”. Separating himself from his peers through excellence in production and creativity that simply can’t be copied\, MUST DIE! maintains his own lane and leads the up-and-comers to follow. \nThe unrivalled nature of MUST DIE!’s signature sound and personal brand has taken him to audiences all over the world\, headlining a number of tours through North America\, Europe\, Asia\, Australia\, and more — MUST DIE! has become a global phenomenon through his personal touch in the studio and a loyal fanbase. With a devastatingly powerful discography and a brand that defies the scene\, MUST DIE! remains undefeated. \nw/ special guest \nTisoki\ntisoki.com \nTisoki is a producer from the UK\, whose prominence in the electronic music scene has been proven by his impressive catalogue of dancefloor anthems and melody driven songs alike. Sampling his taste from a selection of different styles\, Tisoki’s pallet has led to creations that exercise his prowess in dubstep and other bass heavy genres\, whilst also indulging in music of a more eclectic form. \nalso feat. \nTogeki\nlinktr.ee/togekidub \nSmileysfate\nsoundcloud.com/smileysfate \nHosted by\nmnmpresents.com

He continues to perform with the best orchestras: the National Symphony Orchestra\, Lucerne Festival Orchestra\, Frankfurt Radio Orchestra\, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under Kent Nagano\, and Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under Marin Alsop\, among many others. \nMaestro Riccardo Chailly said about the pianist: “I first heard Malofeev when Valery Gergiev performed with him at the Teatro alla Scala…He was only 14\, and he amazed me with his talent. In the time since\, Razor Braids embarked on two headlining tours through the Midwest\, South\, and East Coast and opened up themain stage at Boston Calling 2023\, sharing a stage with The Beaches and The FooFighters. \nThe band brought their energetic stage presence to SXSW as official artists\, Music Hall of Williamsburg\, Sultan Room\, and Elsewhere as direct support for Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever\, Jigsaw Youth and Anna Shoemaker\, respectively. SUMMARY:HOLLY BOWLING
DESCRIPTION:Holly Bowling returns to Buffalo Iron Works for a very special evening on Thursday November 16th\, 2023! \nHolly Bowling \nCast aside any and all expectations. \nWhether behind the piano on a windswept mountainous cliff\, at a hallowed venue such as Carnegie Hall\, or playing shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the most legendary musicians in history\, solo pianist Holly Bowling subverts convention with virtuosic playing\, emotional immersion\, and a thirst for invention. Acclaimed by Rolling Stone\, Billboard\, Relix\, and more and sought-after by icons such as Phil Lesh\, Bob Weir\, and Warren Haynes\, she once again flips the script on her 2020 album and second reimagining of Grateful Dead staples entitled Seeking All That’s Still Unsung. \n“When you go to see someone play solo piano\, you’re not expecting them to stand up\, pluck the strings\, drum on the frame\, hit the strings with mallets\, or place magnets and EBows inside of the piano\,” she smiles. “It doesn’t fit with the expectations of how you’re supposed to play this instrument. I think it works though.” \nHer introduction to the instrument happened at just five-years-old when mom and dad bought a piano from a yard sale down the street. They gave their daughter a choice: ballet or piano. As the sounds of Mozart\, Beethoven\, and The Grateful Dead piped through their home\, she obviously chose the latter without hesitation. \nAfter a childhood dedicated to the instrument\, she studied piano performance at SF State University. Intermittent gigs around San Francisco followed before she ended up on stage for an impromptu jam with Marco Benevento. “I paid him a dollar to go up there\,” she recalls. “It reminded me that for most of my life I wanted to be on stage playing\, and I couldn’’t let that slip away.” \nAfter catching a 2013 Phish show in Lake Tahoe renowned for its extended rendition of “Tweezer\,” she transcribed and arranged the entire 37-minute improvisational masterpiece into a nuanced and intricate piano opus. She humbly refers to it as “a nerdy pet project that somehow inspired people to demand Phish on piano.” It announced her arrival as an exciting outlier and paved the way for Distillation Of A Dream: The Music Of Phish Reimagined For Solo Piano in 2015. \nAs her profile rose\, she delivered Better Left Unsung only a year later. For this triple-LP\, she re-arranged iconic moments from the Grateful Dead on her piano. It bowed in the Top 25 of the Billboard Top Classical Albums Chart. She went on to share the stage with everyone from The Dead’s Weir and Lesh to Haynes\, John Scofield\, Jim James\, Branford Marsalis\, Don Was\, Robert Randolph\, Greensky Bluegrass\, and more. Along the way\, she graced the bills of Lesh’s Terrapin Crossroads and Haynes’s annual Christmas Jam and unveiled the concert recording Live at the Old Church. Simultaneously\, she co-founded improvisational rock outfit Ghost Light in 2018. Engaging a faithful audience even in the midst of the “new normal” of 2020\, she launched a series of living room livestreams chronicled on the eight-volume Alone Together: The Living Room Sessions highlighted by her innovative re-imaginings of Radiohead\, Nine Inch Nails\, and many others. \nDuring 2019\, she tracked Seeking All That’s Still Unsung at 25th Street Recording in Oakland over the course of just five days. \n“Seeking All That’s Still Unsung is a lyric from a Dead song\,” she explains. “There was definitely a sense of trying to look for what I hadn’t said on the last album. Having spent a few more years exploring the Dead’s music in the solo piano context\, I felt free enough to take more liberties with how I approach the arrangements and improvisation. I can insert myself into the songs more. Given their nature\, I realized the way to actually be the truest to them is to throw the rules out the window.” \nUnder the influence of the Bill Evans album Conversations with Myself\, she properly incorporated overdubs for the first time\, locking into a “dialogue” with her own playing. She tried her hand at this approach on Better Left Unsung’s “Dark Star\,” but truly brought it to life here. \nOn the opener and first single “St. Stephen\,” her fingers nimbly conjure a melody between bass-y root notes. The call-and-response instantly captivates with all of the drama and dynamics of a main stage festival performance. \n“It’s like you’re watching a movie\,” she explains. “The scene changes\, and the colors and lighting just shift. Something new comes into focus\, and the improv goes further. It’s not what I expected to come out of the arrangement initially\, but it’s a defining moment on the album. It has the intensity of the overdubbing and some light and dark places to showcase a different range of emotions. \nElsewhere\, the sprawling near 14-minute “Weather Report Suite” traverses a similar scope as her transcendent playing spirals towards a climactic release. The project culminates on a delicate “Stella Blue\,” which she calls “the perfect landing point of the album and an exhale at the end after this emotional ebb and flow.” \nIn advance of Seeking All That’s Still Unsung\, she embarked on The Wilderness Sessions—a virtual concert tour of natural wonders across the United States. Setting up her piano in the heart of national parks and landmarks such as Yosemite National Park\, the Bonneville Salt Flats\, Bruneau Canyon\, the Beartooth Mountains\, and the Badlands of South Dakota\, she catalyzed the “Interaction between the music and the landscape.” \nIn the end\, Holly consistently redefines what’s possible on her instrument of choice. \n“When I play pure stripped-down acoustic piano\, it’s like going home\,” she leaves off. “I love the nuance\, detail\, and emotion you can pull out of a piano in a more subtle and quiet setting. The moments I cherish the most happen when I slip outside of myself for a while. If my music gives this to someone else\, that would make me happy. There are shades of classical and shades from the Grateful Dead. A lot of classical enthusiasts might not give the Dead a chance. Many Deadheads may not like classical. Personally\, I’ve always had two halves of my musical life. When I finally started to bring them together\, it was something I’d been building towards for a lot longer than I’d realized. Bringing everything together\, I’d love to open up boundaries and help people discover something new.” \nBuffalo Iron Works \n49 Illinois St Buffalo\, NY 14203 \nTickets: $22 ADV/$27 DOS \nDoors: 7:00pm \nShow: 8:00pm \nAges: 18+
