SUMMARY:MUST DIE! – VAMPIRE WEAPON TOUR
DESCRIPTION:MNM Presents\nMust Die!\nVampire Weapon Tour\nFriday November 3\nBuffalo Iron Works\nw/ special guest Tisoki\nplus Togeki\, Smileysfate\nMust Die!\nmustdiemusic.com\ntwitter.com/mustdiemusic\ninstagram.com/mustdiemusic\nsoundcloud.com/mustdiemusic \nActing as a rebellious force and the main antagonist of bass music\, there’s no one like MUST DIE!. Between his eccentric state of mind and cutting-edge mettle in the studio\, MUST DIE! caters to an audience with a penchant for forward-thinking sounds that will both challenge and dignify dubstep as we know it. With nearly 10 years under his belt\, MUST DIE! began building his cult with consistent releases on bass music’s most notable labels\, leading him to represent Never Say Die’s prestigious roster. \nHailed as a trendsetter within electronic music\, MUST DIE! reaches beyond the scope of dubstep with each release — his 2014 debut record\, Death & Magic\, set the precedent for his future in dance music\, offering listeners a new take on genres including dubstep\, electro house\, drum and bass\, and more. The start of 2019 established a new era of MUST DIE! with the release of his genre-bending singles “BLISS 2K” and “CHAOS.” Both singles landing at #1 on the Beatport Dubstep Top 100 and reaching over 1 million streams on Spotify\, MUST DIE! sparked a new trend in bass music\, introducing classic rave elements and hard dance components to his catalogue. This year\, MUST DIE! has continued his trend of raising the bar within dance music as he skyrockets off the back of two huge collaborations with Eptic and Zomboy – “Skill Check” and “Last One Standing”. Separating himself from his peers through excellence in production and creativity that simply can’t be copied\, MUST DIE! maintains his own lane and leads the up-and-comers to follow. \nThe unrivalled nature of MUST DIE!’s signature sound and personal brand has taken him to audiences all over the world\, headlining a number of tours through North America\, Europe\, Asia\, Australia\, and more — MUST DIE! has become a global phenomenon through his personal touch in the studio and a loyal fanbase. With a devastatingly powerful discography and a brand that defies the scene\, MUST DIE! remains undefeated. \nw/ special guest \nTisoki\ntisoki.com \nTisoki is a producer from the UK\, whose prominence in the electronic music scene has been proven by his impressive catalogue of dancefloor anthems and melody driven songs alike. Sampling his taste from a selection of different styles\, Tisoki’s pallet has led to creations that exercise his prowess in dubstep and other bass heavy genres\, whilst also indulging in music of a more eclectic form. \nalso feat. \nTogeki\nlinktr.ee/togekidub \nSmileysfate\nsoundcloud.com/smileysfate \nHosted by\nmnmpresents.com

SUMMARY:BAKED SHRIMP W/ EBERWINE
DESCRIPTION:Baked Shrimp w/ Eberwine return to Buffalo Iron Works on Thursday November 2nd\, 2023! \nBaked Shrimp \nBaked Shrimp\, the high-octane progressive fusion trio\, has emerged as a young rising powerhouse in the festival circuit. Hailing from Long Island\, NY\, Jared Cowen (Guitar/Vocals)\, Scott Reill (Bass/Vocals)\, and Jager Soss (Drums/Vocals) showcase their energetic and improvisational talents\, transforming their three-piece sound into a symphonic experience. The band had a groundbreaking year in 2022\, performing over 120 concerts across the United States and making their debut in Canada. As 2023 unfolds\, their success is set to soar even higher. \nKicking off the year with an electrifying show supporting the Disco Biscuits\, Baked Shrimp embarked on a massive headlining Spring Tour. The trio is also slated to make their festival debuts at prestigious events like Peach Music Festival\, Summer Camp Music Festival\, Strange Creek Camp Out\, and Northlands Live. In July\, they will take the main stage at their hometown event\, the Great South Bay Music Festival\, where they will share the spotlight with Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead. Baked Shrimp has garnered additional recognition by providing direct support for acclaimed artists such as Pink Talking Fish\, Dopapod\, Aqueous\, Mihali (from Twiddle)\, and Kung Fu. Notably\, the band hosts their own festival in Upstate New York called LonCon\, created as a tribute to their most devoted supporter and ambassador\, Lon “Conscious” Gellman. LonCon features live music\, art\, and two nights of camping\, and plans are underway to bring the festival back in 2024. \nAmidst their demanding touring schedule\, Baked Shrimp has consistently released new music. Their 2021 album\, Conscious\, received critical acclaim from media outlets like LiveForLiveMusic\, Grateful Web\, and The Sound Podcast with Ira Haberman. Following a quick release of the three-disc live album\, The Prawno Tapes\, Vol. 1\, the band returned to the studio to complete their early-2022 release\, Pork Etiquette. JamBase’s Release Day Picks featured Pork Etiquette alongside albums by renowned artists such as Vulfpeck\, The Weeknd\, Lotus\, and Cory Wong. Currently\, the trio is hard at work in the studio\, laying the groundwork for their fourth studio album\, set for release in the fall of 2023. \nWith an upcoming nearly 50-date Summer Tour\, Baked Shrimp is more prepared than ever to captivate the music world. No longer Long Island’s best-kept secret\, they have become the hardest working band in the business\, captivating audiences and leaving an indelible impression wherever they go. Baked Shrimp is a secret that simply cannot be kept. \nBuffalo Iron Works \n49 Illinois St Buffalo\, NY 14203 \nTickets: $12 ADV/$15 DOS \nDoors: 7:00pm \nShow: 8:00pm \nAges: 18+

SUMMARY:“ALL BAD TOUR” – NICK SHOULDERS AND THE OKAY CRAWDAD
DESCRIPTION:Twenty6 Productions and DSP Present: \n“All Bad Tour” – Nick Shoulders and The Okay Crawdad on Friday October 28th\, 2023! \nNick Shoulders \nAll Bad\, the latest album from Nick Shoulders\, ultimately encapsulates everything that makesShoulders’ inimitable form of country music so vital: a heady balance of dazzling musicianship and punk defiance\, coupled with gritty eccentricity and a generational connection to the roots of the genre. With a singing style inherited from his family’s vocal lineage\, Nick’s songs achieve the rare feat of imparting difficult truths while inciting a certain joyful abandon\, balancing a sound forged by years of hard travel with a heartfelt reverence for the origins of country music. In the spirit of HazelDickens and Jimmy Driftwood\, the incisive yet wildly jubilant All Bad vocally objects to the reckless destruction of the natural landscape and development run rampant\, while still offering plenty of joy and dance-ready rhythms. Spanning a variety of early country styles\, the album’s infectious harmonies shine alongside everything from jangling cajun waltzes to surf-rock infused bluesy ballads–all tied together by a voice seemingly out of place in this century\, yet ever ready to speak up about its problems. \nReleased via Gar Hole Records (a label founded and co-owned by Shoulders)\, All Bad marks the first LP made with his longtime band\, the Okay Crawdad\, since 2019’s premier full-length Okay\,Crawdad and their subsequent pandemic-imposed hiatus. After writing most of the album from the front seat of a tour van\, the Fayetteville\, AR-based musician and bandmates Grant D’Aubin (harmonies/bass)\, Cheech Moosekian (drums) and Jack Studer (lead guitar) recorded the album in a home studio on the banks of the Mississippi River with New Orleans collaborators Ross Farbe and Sam Doores. \nSurrounded by a singing style passed down from a time before microphones\, Nick’s childhood of bird call whistles and an over-exposure to southern gospel music eventually steered him toward an adolescence drumming for metal and punk bands\, and subsequent years as an active illustrator and member of Arkansas’s heavy music scene. After numerous personal calamities and a growing obsession with the rural musical traditions of his lifelong home\, Shoulders left the Ozarks and lived out of his van\, singing on the street corners of the west while slowly being drawn to the vibrance of the New Orleans dance and busking world. After forming in early 2018\, the ‘Okay Crawdad’ band flourished briefly in the wildly talented south Louisiana alt-country scene\, culminating in the release of ‘Rather Low’ by the popular YouTube channel Western AF\, catapulting Nick’s songs to a vastly wider audience right as Covid-19 and lockdowns ensued. Since then\, a rapid ascension into the world of touring music has seen Nick playing alongside the likes of Sierra Ferrell and at major festivals such as Stagecoach. With the hard rhythms and heavenly melodies of their newest release\,All Bad\, the band manages to concoct a body of work that is at turns sublimely freewheeling and profoundly illuminating\, yet primed to permanently warp the listener’s perspective to glorious effect. \nBuffalo Iron Works \n49 Illinois St Buffalo\, NY 14203 \nTickets: $20 ADV/$25 DOS \nDoors: 7:00pm \nShow: 8:00pm \nAges: 18+

SUMMARY:WEIRD PHISHES
DESCRIPTION:Weird Phishes – One-Of-A-Kind Mashups of Radiohead in the style of Phish perform live at Buffalo Iron Works on Thursday October 26th\, 2023! \nWeird Phishes \nWeird Phishes is exactly what it sounds like -the iconic melancholy rock songs of Radiohead completely reborn as danceable\, crunchy jams. With full-album performances\, unexpected mashups\, and gluey funk-driven improvisation\, their jam-heavy take on alt-rock classics has sparked unexpected energy in audiences across the northeast. \nA quick glance at the band’s social media gives a glimpse into why this unlikely mashup proves worthwhile. “Bought tickets on a whim because I love both bands\, had wanted to checkout the club and thought it would be amusing. I was not expecting such incredible musicianship and thought that had gone into their set…it was one of the best shows I’ve seen in years.” Said one user. “Clean\, creative mashups of a favorite album and great Phish selections. Great energy.” says another. “Impossibly excellent show.” \nIn July 2019\, Weird Phishes solidified their place in the New England jam community\, playing back-to-back after parties for Phish’s performances at Fenway Park. With a growing fanbase and an ever-changing setlist\, the band continued their breakout year with several headlining performances in Boston and a fall tour to the midwest\, topped off with Phish afterparties inProvidence and New York\, and the very last performance at legendary venue Nectar’s before the pandemic hit. When live music returned in 2021\, Weird Phishes returned with a force. The band made its triumphant return with a headlining performance at the inaugural Safe and Soundz festival\, and took a victory lap in their home city\, selling out the Aeronaut Cannery and performing at the legendary Paradise Rock Club. \nBuffalo Iron Works \n49 Illinois St Buffalo\, NY 1403 \nTickets: $10 ADV/$12 DOS \nDoors: 8:00pm \nShow: 9:00pm \nAges: 18+

SUMMARY:THE FURIOUS BONGOS – A FRANK ZAPPA PROJECT FEAT. CHAD WACKERMAN
DESCRIPTION:The Furious Bongos – A Frank Zappa Project feat. Chad Wackerman performs live at Buffalo Iron Works – Tuesday October 24th\, 2023! \nThe Furious Bongos \nWe’re only in it for the money. HAHAHAHA \nActually\, we’re just a bunch of professional musicians with pretty diverse backgrounds who decided to take on a pretty big challenge and have some fun in the process. \nNow\, you might ask\, “Oh yeah? ‘Professional’ musicians\, eh? What makes you think you can play Frank’s music as well as [insert Zappa family member here]?” \nWell…you might not have heard of us individually\, but you have heard of the people we’ve spent our careers working with (and we don’t mean “I played a 10am slot at a festival once that was headlined by Famous Artist X”): \nYo Yo Ma\, Mick Fleetwood\, BB King\, REM\, Vinnie Colaiuta\, Oasis\, LA Philharmonic\, Madison Symphony\, Arthur Barrow\, Munich Philharmonic\, Bryan Beller\, India Arie\, Popa Chubby\, Limelight: A Tribute To Rush\, Pinetop Perkins\, Chicago Lyric Opera\, Arrested Development\, Madison Opera\, blah blah blah….you get the idea. \nWhen it came to the music\, Frank was constantly changing things\, and he allowed his band members to bring their unique voices to the table. He also understood that his live performances were entertainment: it’s supposed to be a rock show\, not a piano recital. \nWith that in mind\, we don’t think playing Song X from Album Y note-for-note while staring at our shoes is the proper way to go about this. \nThe result of that approach (combined with a lot of homework) is a show that pays respect to Zappa’s legacy\, but is also new and different and dangerous and FUN\, with lots of eyebrows. Kinda like Frank. \nTickets: $20 ADV/$25 DOS\nDoors: 7:00pm\nShow: 8:00pm\nAges: 18+

SUMMARY:RAYLAND BAXTER W/ FLYTE- FALL TOUR 2023
DESCRIPTION:Twenty6 Productions Presents: Rayland Baxter w/ Flyte – FALL TOUR 2023 at Buffalo Iron Works on Sunday October 22nd\, 2023! \nRayland Baxter \nFor the making of his fourth album If I Were a Butterfly\, Rayland Baxter holed up for over a year at a former rubber-band factory turned studio in the Kentucky countryside—a seemingly humble environment that proved to be something of a wonderland. “I spent that year living in a barn with the squirrels and the birds\, on my own most of the time\, and I discovered so much about music and how to create it\,” says the Tennessee-bred singer/songwriter. “Instead of going into a studio with a producer for two weeks\, I just waited for the record to build itself. I’d get up and go outside\, see a butterfly and connect that with some impulsive thought I’d had three months ago\, and suddenly a song I’d been working on would make sense. That’s how the whole album came to be.” \nThe follow-up to 2018’s critically acclaimed Wide Awake\, If I Were a Butterfly finds Baxter co-producing alongside Tim O’Sullivan (Grace Potter\, The Head and the Heart) and Kai Welch (Molly Tuttle\, Sierra Hull)\, slowly piecing together the album’s patchwork of lush psychedelia and Beatlesesque pop. In addition to working at Thunder Sound (the Kentucky studio he called home for months on end)\, Baxter recorded in California\, Texas\, Tennessee\, and Washington\, enlisting a remarkable lineup of musicians: Shakey Graves\, Lennon Stella\, several members of Cage the Elephant\, Zac Cockrell of Alabama Shakes\, Morning Teleportation’s Travis Goodwin\, and legendary Motown drummer Miss Bobbye Hall\, among many others. In an especially meaningful turn\, two of the album’s tracks feature the elegant pedal steel work of his father\, Bucky Baxter (a musician who performed with Bob Dylan and who passed away in May 2020). Thanks to the extraordinary care and ingenuity behind its creation\, If I Were a Butterfly arrives as a work of rarefied magic\, capable of stirring up immense feeling while leaving the listener happily wonderstruck. \nBaxter’s debut release as a producer\, If I Were a Butterfly bears a dazzling unpredictability that has much to do with his limitless imagination as a collector and collagist of sound. “Sometimes the bullfrogs in the pond outside would pulse in a certain tempo and I’d apply that to a song\, or I’d hear a bird chirping and it would inspire me to add harmonica in a particular place\,” he says. “I could be walking around this massive building in the middle of the night and the air-conditioning would turn on\, and it’d give me the idea to include a synth part that holds a similar note. I’d wait for those moments to happen and whenever I tried to force anything\, the music usually rejected it.” \nA perfect introduction to If I Were a Butterfly’s elaborate sonic world\, the album-opening title track begins with a recording of a Baxter singing at age four\, then drifts into a delicately sprawling reverie ornamented with so many lovely details (lavish flute and cello melodies\, radiant horns\, the hypnotic harmonies of Lennon Stella and Baxter’s girlfriend\, Sophia Rose). “I liked the idea of the first voice on the record being me as a little kid\, not knowing where I’d be today\,” notes Baxter\, who embedded newly unearthed audio clips of himself and his older sister Brooke all throughout the album. Graced with the combustible guitar work of his bandmate Barney Cortez\, “Billy Goat” kicks up a potent tension with its restless grooves and hot-tempered gang vocals. “It’s a breakup song about being with someone who’s on a different life path—one side wants to influence the other\, and inevitably you part ways\,” says Baxter. From there\, the album takes on a feverish momentum with “Rubberband Man\,” a delightfully frenzied track channeling a wild and giddy freedom. “There’s rubber bands all over the property at Thunder Sound—in the earth\, in the concrete\, used as insulation for the studio\,” says Baxter. “I took a mishmash of images in my head and it turned into a song about staying flexible\, rolling with the punches.” \nIn its searching reflection on love and loss and striving for transcendence\, If I Were a Butterfly reaches a quietly glorious intensity on “Tadpole”: a piano ballad threaded with childhood memories at turns oddly tender (catching frogs and crawfish in a nearby toxic creek) and nightmarish (hearing the gunshot when an across-the-street neighbor took her own life). And on “My Argentina\,” If I Were a Butterfly closes out with a piano-driven and painfully raw outpouring\, its starkness intermittently broken by soulful strings and gospel-esque harmonies. “One time at the studio I stayed up all night and played that song maybe 100 times; we ended up using the last take\, which was recorded at about five in the morning\,” says Baxter. “It’s a song that represents the thoughts one might have about a perfect love life\, and I love how it ends the album in a big angelic cloud of reverb.” \nFor Baxter\, the act of self-producing such a sonically and emotionally expansive body of work proved both exhilarating and arduous. “It really wore me out to spend all that time alone at the studio\, editing the hell out of this record; my heart definitely suffered\,” he says. “But I also had the guidance of my dad\, who was in my dreams all the time—if I was moving too fast\, I’d hear him telling me to slow down.” Another profound influence on the album-making process: the 2018 deaths of Baxter’s close friends Billy Swayze (a musician whose parents owned the rubber band company that became Thunder Sound) and Tiger Merritt (the vocalist/guitarist for Morning Teleportation\, who worked with Swayze in constructing the studio). “Billy and Tiger had been going up there since 2015\, and finally they turned it into a legit recording studio\,” he says. “It’s a very special place to me\, so they’re two of the four angels I decided to dedicate this record to.” \nEven in its most somber moments\, If I Were a Butterfly wholly fulfills Baxter’s mission of imparting a certain purposeful joy. “It’s been a weird few years\, but I think the big picture is for us to just exist and find love and be loved\, and try to see that all the daily bullshit is simply bugs on the windshield\,” says Baxter. “I hope that this album makes people feel the way I do whenever I listen to my favorite records\, and that it gives them a platform to dream on.” \nBuffalo Iron Works \n49 Illinois St Buffalo\, NY 14203 \nTickets: $23 ADV/$26 DOS \nDoors: 7:00pm \nShow: 8:00pm \nAges: 18+

SUMMARY:BUFFALO NICHOLS
DESCRIPTION:Buffalo Nichols celebrates the release of his new album live at Buffalo Iron Works on Wednesday October 18th\, 2023! \nBuffalo Nichols \nOn his second album\, The Fatalist\, Carl “Buffalo” Nichols does things with the blues that might catch you off guard. There’s 808 programming\, chopped up Charley Patton samples\, washes of synth. There’s a consideration of the fullness of the sonic stage and the atmospherics of the music that can only come with a long engagement with electronic music. But this is no gimmicky hybrid or attempt to turn the blues into 21st century music by simply dressing it with skittering hi-hats. Nichols’ vision for the blues is of a form of music that’s intimately tied to every day life in 2023\, something that’s reflected not only in the choice of instrumentation\, but in the complexities of the songwriting and the gray areas his lyrics explore. This is music that comes straight from the present\, and as such\, it’s a reminder that the same shit that drove the first blues singers to pick up a guitar is still present behind the throbs of deep bass hits today. The Fatalist sounds unlike any blues record you’re likely to hear in 2023. \nOf course\, Nichols’ songwriting has always been firmly rooted in the present. He proved he could succeed on the music industry’s own blues terms on his self-titled 2021 debut\, whose songs\, Band camp Daily said\, “seem to flow from some great repository of emotion and insight.” The Fatalist finds him digging deeper in search of answers to ever-more-complicated questions around responsibility and self-definition\, his plainspoken lyrics both cutting and refreshing in their sincerity and refusal to accept pat solutions. Over a guitar line that blisters and pops with bright sunshine\, he holds forth on the simple everyday power of love in “Love is All\,” and when he shades his optimism with a clear-eyed view of “bad behavior in the canon of good men\,” as he sings\, his guitar line goes cloudy with the thought. He slowly walks around a broken relationship in “The Difference\,” trying to find the faults. It’s a decidedly modern breakup song\, one steeped in moral ambiguity. “I just don’t know the difference between love and sympathy\,”he sings\, before hoping his once-beloved “won’t forget the one who kept your ego fed.” \nStill\, Nichols rarely sounds like a blues singer. Like Leonard Cohen\, he dominates these songs with his voice. His low\, guttural baritone is high in the mix\, and he sounds coiled\, clenched tight. The slow drip of his songwriting lends TheFatalist an incredible amount of drama\, which the production—at times dark and dewy and claustrophobic\, at times zippy with light—further emphasizes. \nNichols produced the album himself at home\, having recently returned to Milwaukee following a few years in Austin.“Being back in Milwaukee reminded me of why I started making music in the first place. It got me away from the industry-town’ mentality\,” he says. “There’s definitely a certain work ethic that comes from being in a city likeMilwaukee. There are no clear paths to success and not many examples of ‘making it\,’ so people end up creating their own path and developing a broad skill set to sustain a career as an artist.” \nThat personal touch is evident in how considerately these songs have been framed. “In a lot of ways I was improvising\,” he says\, and he leaned on his years of experience as a DIY musician—and the songs themselves—to guide him. “Drum machines are a 50-year-old technology. If the blues hadn’t been hijacked and trapped in amber\, I think they naturally would’ve been incorporated.” The drum programming throughout feels like a natural rhythmic vehicle for these songs. “When you pick up a guitar\, the first thing you’re gonna play is the blues\,” he says. “And when you pick up an 808\, you’re gonna start doing trap beats.” \nThe album’s most ambitious song is Nichols’ dusky take on Blind Willie Johnson’s “You’re Gonna Need SomebodyOn Your Bond.” As he sings of salvation and relief\, Nichols creates a soundscape that teems with the joyous claustrophobia of classic gospel. Triggers of Charley Patton’s version connect the earliest blues recordings to the present\, both singers’ voices urgent in their message. “It’s important for contemporary musicians to play these old songs sometimes\,” Nichols says. “I always keep traditional songs in my set and on my records because I remember how important it was for me to hear somebody interpret a song in a way that made sense to me.” \nNichols further draws the past into the present in “The Fatalist Blues\,” a song that simmers with unanswered questions and quotes the classic blues song “Samson and Delilah.” “That was a question that stayed on my mind\,”Nichols says. “If you’re raised in a violent environment\, are you destined to become that\, or can you do something to change that?” The song finds Nichols testing the boundaries of will—“If I had my way I would fill my whole world with love\,” he sings\, and the implication is he’s not sure if he has his way or not. Even as that ambiguity gives the song a greater sense of dramatic tension\, uncertainty also carries within it the glimmer of hope\, and the imperative to try. \nThe stakes throughout this album are largely personal\, rather than social; Nichols is singing about his life in the first person\, and about his desire to forge his own individuality in a world and a music industry that make it nearly \nimpossible to do so. Ringing through “The Fatalist Blues”—and The Fatalist—is a simple question: Do I have any sayin how things are going to go? It’s the question behind so much of the physical and psychic pain in the blues\, and in a frustrating age that preaches self-empowerment and shames the disenfranchised\, it’s a stridently modern question\, too. By playing his music the way he wants to play it\, by refusing to give up his creative control or accept any one else’s definition of the blues or indeed his own life\, Carl Nichols has tried to forge an answer.
