SUMMARY:Gershwin & Respighi
DESCRIPTION:Gershwin & Respighi\nJoAnn Falletta\, conductor\nJoyce Yang\, piano \nJESSIE MONTGOMERY Snapshots\nGERSHWIN Piano Concerto in F\nRESPIGHI Church Windows \nThis concert pairs the rhythm and soul of America with the pictorial grandeur of Italy. George Gershwin’s Concerto in F comes alive under the touch of Joyce Yang\, a pianist celebrated for her electrifying performances and depth of expression. The program also introduces Snapshots by Jessie Montgomery\, a vibrant reflection of childhood’s playful innocence and storms\, co-commissioned by the BPO. Respighi’s Church Windows transports listeners to Italy with its rich\, stained glass-inspired melodies. Together\, these pieces craft a narrative that spans continents and emotions\, inviting the audience on a journey through jazz-infused streets and the echoing aisles of ancient cathedrals.

SUMMARY:Kountry Wayne
DESCRIPTION:Kountry Wayne\nOctober 11\, 2024\nKountry Wayne (a.k.a. Wayne Colley) has been generating an extraordinary amount of buzz among his peers within the entertainment industry as one of comedy’s most notable rising stars. Since his first viral Facebook post in 2014\, Wayne’s career continues to soar\, while garnering a loyal fan base. His widely popular digital sketches draw millions of viewers daily across Facebook\, TikTok\, Instagram and his YouTube channel. These sketches feature original characters created by Wayne\, as well as cameos from notable celebrities such as Ludacris\, Mike Epps\, Charlamagne tha God\, and Lamar Odom\, among others. \nKeeping it real\, mining comic gold from the everyday and applying his genius for freestyling\, Wayne has mastered the art of storytelling. In 2017\, Wayne embarked on the “Child Support Tour\,” his first national tour consisting of 150 dates\, where he sold out clubs and theaters across America. The tour’s name wasn’t just a clever moniker—Wayne\, a father of ten kids\, is committed to securing their future as he builds his own entertainment legacy. \n“My hashtag\, my mantra\, is ‘Help is On The Way!’ – that’s my slogan\, I own it\, because I believe God’s got my back and your back and whatever is stressing you out today\, it won’t last because help is truly on the way\,” says Wayne\, whose endearingly funny way with English stems from growing up “Kountry” in Millen\, GA (pop. 3500)\, between Statesboro and Augusta. He acquired his stage name during his time living and attending school in Savannah in the mid-2000s. \nWayne’s career highlights in recent years include being named one of Variety’s “10 Comics to Watch” in 2021\, starring in the BET original Christmas rom-com “Holiday Heartbreak” (2021)\, appearing on MTV’s “Wild ‘N Out” with Nick Cannon\, and releasing his debut EP\, “Drip & Zay\,” produced by GRAMMY® Award- winning producer Zaytoven. Currently\, Wayne co-hosts “I Love Us\,” a comedy clip show on BET+ alongside Kym Whitley\, which premiered last summer. Wayne also starred in the comedy feature film “Strange Love\,” available on Amazon Prime\, and the Peacock original film “Praise This\,” produced by Will Packer\, directed by Tina Gordon\, and starring Chloe Bailey\, Quavo\, Mack Wilds\, Druski\, and more. In September 2023\, Wayne released his first Netflix stand-up special “Kountry Wayne: A Woman’s Prayer.” Filmed at the Warner Theatre in Washington\, D.C.\, Wayne brings his southern flare in this one-of-a-kind stand-up special on fatherhood\, gender dynamics\, and faith. \nWayne has established himself as one of the most in-demand touring comedians in the country\, amassing a devoted following while performing in theaters\, comedy clubs and arenas across the nation. In 2022\, the charismatic comic performed to sold-out theaters during his “Straight Out The Mud” tour\, produced by Live Nation. Notably\, he graced the stage of the historic Palace Theatre in Los Angeles as part of the Netflix is a Joke Festival. Building on the success of “Straight Out The Mud\,” Wayne set off on his second Live Nation-produced tour\, “Help Is On The Way\,” in 2023. Concurrently\, Wayne released his debut book of the same name on April 18\, 2023\, through Harmony Books\, an imprint of Penguin Random House. In the book\, Wayne shares his seemingly impossible story with hopes to inspire others to see that no matter where you started from or how stuck you feel right now\, the possibilities for living a rich\, full life are limitless. The foreword is written by NAACP Image Award-winning actor and comedian\, Cedric the Entertainer. \nWith his humble roots and unbridled energy\, Wayne continues to build his audience with cutting-edge yet clean\, curse-free material that transcends cultural lines. All while still posting content online daily.

SUMMARY:Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson\nKleinhans Music Hall and Emporium Presents present\nDr. Neil deGrasse Tyson\nThe Cosmic Perspective\n*Sold Out*\nThere is no view of the world as emotionally potent as the one granted by a cosmic perspective. It’s one that sees Earth as a planet in a vast empty universe. It profoundly influences what we think and feel about science\, culture\, politics\, and life itself. \nTickets start at only $39.95 and are on sale now! A limited number of VIP Q&A tickets will also be available which includes premium seating and a post-show question and answer session with Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson. \nAbout Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson\nDr. Neil deGrasse Tyson was born and raised in New York City where he was educated in the public schools clear through his graduation from the Bronx High School of Science. Tyson went on to earn his BA in Physics from Harvard and his PhD in Astrophysics from Columbia. \n\n\n\nIn 2001\, Tyson was appointed by President Bush to serve on a twelve-member commission that studied the Future of the U.S. Aerospace Industry. The final report was published in 2002 and contained recommendations (for Congress and for the major agencies of the government) that would promote a thriving future of transportation\, space exploration\, and national security. \nIn 2004\, Tyson was once again appointed by President Bush to serve on a nine-member commission on the Implementation of the United States Space Exploration Policy\, dubbed the “Moon\, Mars\, and Beyond” commission. This group navigated a path by which the new space vision can become a successful part of the American agenda. And in 2006\, the head of NASA appointed Tyson to serve on its prestigious Advisory Council\, which guides NASA through its perennial need to fit ambitious visions into restricted budgets. \n\n \nNeil deGrasse Tyson by Patrick Queen for Columbia Magazine \n\n\nIn addition to dozens of professional publications\, Dr. Tyson has written\, and continues to write for the public. From 1995 to 2005\, Tyson was a monthly essayist for Natural History magazine under the title Universe. And among Tyson’s fifteen books is his memoir The Sky is Not the Limit: Adventures of an Urban Astrophysicist; and Origins: Fourteen Billion Years of Cosmic Evolution\, co-written with Donald Goldsmith. Origins is the companion book to the PBS NOVA four-part mini-series Origins\, in which Tyson served as on-camera host. The program premiered in September 2004. \nTwo of Tyson’s other books are the playful and informative Death By Black Hole and Other Cosmic Quandaries\, which was a New York Times bestseller\, and The Pluto Files: The Rise and Fall of America’s Favorite Planet\, chronicling his experience at the center of the controversy over Pluto’s planetary status. The PBS NOVA documentary The Pluto Files\, based on the book\, premiered in March 2010. \nIn February 2012\, Tyson released his tenth book\, containing every thought he has ever had on the past\, present\, and future of space exploration: Space Chronicles: Facing the Ultimate Frontier. \nFor five seasons\, beginning in the fall of 2006\, Tyson appeared as the on-camera host of PBS NOVA’s spinoff program NOVA ScienceNOW\, which is an accessible look at the frontier of all the science that shapes the understanding of our place in the universe. \nDuring the summer of 2009 Tyson identified a cadre of professional standup comedians to assist his effort in bringing science to commercial radio with the NSF-funded pilot program StarTalk. Now also a popular Podcast\, for three years it enjoyed a limited-run Television Series on the National Geographic Channel. StarTalk combines celebrity guests with informative yet playful banter. The target audience is all those people who never thought they would\, or could\, like science. In its first year on television and in three successive seasons\, it was nominated for a Best Informational Programming Emmy. \nTyson is the recipient of twenty-three honorary doctorates and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal\, the highest award given by NASA to a non-government citizen. His contributions to the public appreciation of the cosmos have been recognized by the International Astronomical Union in their official naming of asteroid “13123 Tyson.” And by zoologists\, with the naming of Indirani Tysoni\, a native species of leaping frog in India. On the lighter side\, Tyson was voted “Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive” by People Magazine in 2000. \nIn 2017\, Tyson published Astrophysics for People In A Hurry\, which was a domestic and international bestseller. This adorably readable book is an introduction to all that you’ve read and heard about that’s making news in the universe—consummated\, in one place\, succinctly presented\, for people in a hurry. \nThat was followed in 2018 by Accessory to War: The Unspoken Alliance Between Astrophysics and the Military\, coauthored with Avis Lang\, in 2019 by Letters from an Astrophysicist\, both New York Times Bestsellers\, and in 2021 by Cosmic Queries: StarTalk’s Guide to Who We Are\, How We Got Here\, and Where We are Going\, coauthored with James Trefil. \nTyson served as Executive Science Editor and on-camera Host & Narrator for Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey\, the 21stcentury continuation of Carl Sagan’s landmark television series. The show began in March 2014 and ran thirteen episodes in primetime on the FOX network\, and appeared in 181 countries in 45 languages around the world on the National Geographic Channels. Cosmos won four Emmy Awards\, a Peabody Award\, two Critics Choice awards\, as well as a dozen other industry recognitions. Tyson reprised his role as on-camera host for the next season of Cosmos—Cosmos: Possible Worlds\, which premiered on the National Geographic Channel in March 2020 and on the FOX network in September 2020. \nTyson’s latest books are Starry Messenger: Cosmic Perspectives on Civilization and To Infinity and Beyond: A Journey of Cosmic Discovery\, coauthored with Lindsey Nyx Walker\, both New York Times bestsellers. \nTyson is the fifth head of the world-renowned Hayden Planetarium in New York City and the first occupant of its Frederick P. Rose Directorship. He is also a research associate of the Department of Astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History. \nNeil deGrasse Tyson lives in New York City with his wife\, a former IT project manager with Bloomberg Financial Markets.

DESCRIPTION:Beekeeping 101\nLearn everything you need to know to get started in the exciting world of apiculture. \n\nOctober 16\, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm\nCost: $30/ticket | $27/member\n\nThinking of becoming a beekeeper? This is the place to start! We’ll cover all of the basics you need to know before deciding to get your first hive\, plus everything you’ll want to know before you bring your bees home. \nThis lecture is designed to help beginners filter through all of the beekeeping information that is available out there. We remember being new to beekeeping and feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of advice that we had access to. Now\, after doing this for a while\, we’ve found what seems to work well here and we can offer locally relevant advice. \nWe’ll begin by talking about the practical questions to consider before starting up your apiary\, including costs\, time commitment\, necessary equipment\, and space requirements. We’ll spend lots of time getting to know the bees themselves\, as we believe it’s really important to understand who we’re trying to care for. From there\, we’ll talk about the things you can expect to see and do throughout your first year as a beekeeper. Our hope is that you’ll finish the program and be really excited to start your new apiary. And also that you’ll know what the word apiary means! Admission to the Botanical Gardens is included. \nRegistration closes on October 13.

SUMMARY:Textile Curiosities
DESCRIPTION:Textile Curiosities\nStep into a world where art and nature converge in a display of faux-taxidermy moth and butterfly sculptures. Aleah Ford\, known as “Moth On The Wall\,” invites you to experience the enchanting realm of these ephemeral creatures through her meticulously crafted works. In this exhibition\, Aleah’s sculptures come to life using textiles\, wire\, faux fur\, clay\, and flocking. The sculptures are presented within shadow boxes\, reminiscent of Victorian curiosity cabinets\, inviting viewers to step back in time to an era of exploration and discovery. Each box offers a glimpse into the fascinating world of the Lepidoptera.
