SUMMARY:Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn
DESCRIPTION:Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn\nKleinhans Music Hall presents\nBéla Fleck & Abigail Washburn\nApril 3\, 2024 – 7:30 PM\nKleinhans Music Hall is pleased to present Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn on April 3\, 2024 at 7:30 PM in the Mary Seaton Room. Tickets are on sale now! \nAbout Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn\nBéla Fleck & Abigail Washburn\, “the king and queen of the banjo” (Paste Magazine)\, have a musical partnership like no other. Béla Fleck is a fifteen-time Grammy Award winner who has taken the instrument across multiple genres\, and Abigail Washburn a singer-songwriter and clawhammer banjo player who re-radicalized it by combining it with Far East culture and sounds. The two met at a square dance\, began collaborating musically and eventually fell in love. Over the years\, they played together most visibly in the Sparrow Quartet alongside Ben Sollee and Casey Driessen and informally at a pickin’ party here\, a benefit there\, or occasionally popping up in each other’s solo shows. Fans of tradition-tweaking acoustic fare eagerly anticipated that Béla & Abigail would begin making music together as a duo. \nFleck has the virtuosic\, jazz-to-classical ingenuity of an iconic instrumentalist and composer with bluegrass roots. His collaborations range from his ground-breaking standard-setting ensemble Béla Fleck and the Flecktones to a staggeringly broad array of musical experiments. From writing concertos for full symphony orchestra\, exploring the banjo’s African roots\, to jazz duos with Chick Corea\, many tout that Béla Fleck is the world’s premier banjo player. Washburn has the earthy sophistication of a postmodern\, old-time singer-songwriter who has drawn critical acclaim for her solo albums. She has done fascinating work in folk musical diplomacy in China\, presented an original theatrical production\, and has contributed to singular side groups Uncle Earl and The Wu-Force. In addition to being named a TED Fellow in 2012\, Abigail was recently named the first US-China Fellow at Vanderbilt University\, in addition to Carolina Performing Arts/Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s DisTil Fellow for 2018-2020. \nOn stage\, Fleck & Washburn will perform pieces from their Grammy-winning self-titled debut as well as their new record\, Echo in the Valley (Rounder 2017). With one eye on using the banjo to showcase America’s rich heritage and the other pulling the noble instrument from its most familiar arena into new and unique realms\, Bela & Abigail meet in the mean\, head-on\, to present music that feels wildly innovative and familiar at the same time. Whether at home\, on stage or on record\, their deep bond\, combined with the way their distinct musical personalities and banjo styles interact\, makes theirs a picking partnership unlike any other on the planet.

Polar bears\, musk ox\, whales and caribou are some of the Arctic animals co-existing with more than 40 different ethnic groups in the north. Through beautiful images and awe-inspiring moments\, National Geographic Live takes you on a journey with our first Indigenous speaker Kiliii Yüyan to understand the native peoples and their relationship to a frigid land and its animals. \nABOUT KILIII YÜYAN\nNational Geographic Explorer Kiliii Yüyan is an award-winning photographer capturing the human experience in some of the world’s harshest environments. He is a 2023 recipient of National Geographic’s Eliza Scidmore Award for Outstanding Storytelling. SUMMARY:JACKSON STOKES
DESCRIPTION:Back II Back Entertainment presents: Jackson Stokes w/ Miller and the Other Sinners & Jim Crean perform live at Buffalo Iron Works on March 29th\, 2023! \nJackson Stokes \nWhen his latest solo release\, Passengers Volume One\, arrived as a contender for Rock’s Top 20 chart in October of 2023\, Jackson Stokes posted another notch on his growing list of accolades. Whether as a seasoned bandleader\, sought-after ensemble player\, or valued collaborator\, the rock/soul singer-songwriter from St Louis\, Missouri continues to rise as a coveted musical commodity. And with tens of thousands of touring miles logged across four continents- including\, in 2023\, aWorld Record achievement; performing 50 shows in 50 U.S. states in 49 days with the Devon Allman Project and Donavon Frankenreiter- Stokes is\, as well\, the consummate rock-and-roll road dog. \nA six-song\, groove-n-soul EP\, Passengers Volume One\, features Stokes helming his touring band and a host of special guests\, and is produced by the venerable Luther Dickinson\, of the Grammy-nominated North Mississippi Allstars. Written almost entirely by Stokes\, (with co-write contributions from bassist Paul Brackens and drummer Ben Bicklein on“Ride”)\, the half-dozen tracks showcase his ever-maturing song craft\, detailed with stripped-clean\, riff-driven guitar\, and intimate and arresting vocals. Opening with the unadorned\, dawning soul of “Until the Morning\,” Stokes leads his trusted group through an inspired jam on the coda\, then settles into the cycling rock of “Early Riser\,” again propelled by his infectious guitar work\, and a vocal cameo from Allman. \nThe second-half teems with the straight-ahead pulse of“Ride\,” then shifts to the sunlit\, hazy sway of “Gemini.” Closing out Volume One\, Stokes dips into down-and-dirty seduction on “Don’tTempt Me\,” and a assuring promise of a second and contrasting volume to come in2024. Throughout the collection\, there are guest appearances from keyboard great\, John Ginty\, and singers\, R. ScottBryan\, Mattie Schell\, Allie Vogler\, Joanna Sorenko\, and Chris Turnbaugh\, as well as string accompaniment from Mark Hochberg. \nOver his decade-and-a-half career\, Stokes\, in his own right\, also has been a welcomed guest onstage\, opening for or collaborating with a who’s who of artists such asRobert Cray\, Warren Haynes\, Marcus King\, Lucas Nelson\, Samantha Fish\, IvanNeville\, Eric Krasno\, Eric Gales\, Robert Randolph\, The Wailers\, The Allman BettsBand\, and Tonina. \nBuffalo Iron Works \n49 Illinois St Buffalo\, NY 14203\nTickets: $15 ADV/$20 DOS\nAges: 18+

A KeyBank Center pre-sale will be held Friday\, November 3 at 10 AM through Monday\, November 6 at 11:59 PM. Tickets go on sale to the general public Tuesday\, November 7 at 10 AM.\nPacked with explosive excitement\, The Greatest Show On Earth begins and ends with a bang! Lauren Irving\, Alex Stickels\, and Jan Damm join forces as Aria\, Stix\, and Nick Nack who serve as the soul\, rhythm\, and funny bone of the show\, guiding audiences through an interactive and immersive experience. The music-filled journey is bursting with catchy rhythms\, beats\, songs\, and laughter that will have audiences clapping\, tapping\, singing\, and laughing along. As Aria\, Stix\, and Nick Nack serve as show guides\, they encounter never-before-seen stunts\, acrobatic displays\, and comedic acts along the way. A globally diverse cast that includes 75 performers hailing from 18 countries including Argentina\, Canada\, Cuba\, Ethiopia\, Italy\, Mongolia\, Spain\, Ukraine\, and the United States will inspire audiences through a variety of unbelievable circus acts\, including: \nNever-Before-Seen Stunts\nReimagining an American Icon means reimagining traditional acts and adding an extra layer of awe and wonder. The Triangular Highwire\, led by The Lopez Family\, sixth-generation circus artists hailing from Mexico and Chile\, takes the show to new heights with a never-before-attempted take on the classic highwire. By re-engineering a circus favorite\, three 25-foot-tall wires are connected in a triangular formation with performers who triple the excitement by jumping over their partner’s shoulders\, riding bikes on the thin wire with performers on top in a handstand\, and more incredible human feats. The Double Wheel of Destiny is even more extreme with four acrobatic daredevils performing challenging back-and-forth leaps and somersaults atop two simultaneously spinning apparatuses suspended 30 feet above the ground and moving at incredibly high speeds. \nHilarious Comedic Performances\nDelivering humor in a new\, laugh-out-loud\, unexpected way are Nick Nack and the Equivokee trio. Nick Nack\, one of the show guides\, alongside the trio from Ukraine\, introduces a modern take on clowning that leaves the makeup behind and focuses on delivering fun for Children of All Ages through a comedic blend of Rola Bola\, juggling\, acrobatics\, dancing\, and much more silliness. \nThe Ultimate Playground\nThe 360-degree modular performance area is the ultimate playground with colorful elements that evoke a toy box activated by the incredible athletics of the performers. It then transforms into the ultimate skatepark as bikes soar through the air during a high-adrenaline extreme sports act. Featuring a group of BMX riders\, a trial bike\, and an extreme unicycle\, these riders perform stunts on a unique trampoline box constructed in the center of a take-off and landing ramp\, the only one of its kind. Double-sided ramps allow the extreme athletes to mirror each other with epic side-by-side bike stunts that include high-flying flips. \nCriss-Cross Trapeze\nNine trapeze artists will ascend to the Criss-Cross Trapeze – the ultimate swing set consisting of four pedestals for this multi-directional act.
