SUMMARY:INTREPID TRAVELERS – ALBUM RELEASE SHOW W/ SPECIAL GUESTS ROY G BIV & CYPHER
DESCRIPTION:Intrepid Travelers – Album Release Show w/ Special Guests Roy G Biv & Cypher takes place at Buffalo Iron Works on Friday October 13th\, 2023! \nIntrepid Travelers \nFounded on friendship\, fun\, and a sense of freedom\, Intrepid Travelers is a musical quartet from Buffalo\, NY that defines itself through boundless improvisation and eclectic evolution. Treating each live show as a journey with the audience rather than a performance\, Intrepid Travelers pride themselves on a form of focused\, collective expression that showcases a medium where cerebral musicianship meets heartfelt\, soulful songwriting. \n“Improvisation does indeed play a role in Intrepid Travelers’ sound\, but so too does strong\, sturdy and well-conceived songwriting\, something in ample evidence on the “Rainbow Monkey?” EP” \n– Jeff Miers – The Buffalo News \n“‘Intrepid’ describes them well: they are fearless and resolute and own their musical style\, which is melodious and placid\, while improvisational rhythm\, solid riffs\, keys\, and jamming keep it elevated. Fun\, fantastical lyrics complete the feel of their live performance\, demonstrative of their crafting abilities. I look forward to further exploration of Intrepid Travelers.” \n– Mary Mistretta – UpstateLIVE \nBuffalo Iron Works \n49 Illinois St Buffalo\, NY 14203 \nTickets: $12 ADV/$15 DOS \nDoors: 7:00pm \nShow: 8:00pm \nAges: 18+

SUMMARY:TROYBOI: SAY LESS TOUR
DESCRIPTION:TROYBOI: SAY LESS TOUR\nw/ Mr. Carmack\, Charles Nimbus\nlocal support: Fruitbat \nFriday October 13\, 2023\nBuffalo Riverworks 8pm \nOn sale 6/9 @ 10am: \nGET TICKETS!\nTroyboi\ntroyboimusic.com\ninstagram.com/troyboi\nsoundcloud.com/troyBoi\ntwitter.com/troyboimusic\nyoutube.com/@TroyBoiOfficial \nT-R-O-Y-B-O-I. These letters are chanted by the masses at his shows\, but the question is who is the artist incorporating stunning visuals\, live instruments\, talented dancers\, and those jaw dropping aerialists? \nTroy Henry\, the elusive producer who has classified himself as a music manipulation specialist got his start making his beats standing up in his London studio apartment kitchen with his MacBook and a midi keyboard. Today\, the TroyBoi Experience is indeed a musical journey of hard-hitting beats\, lights\, visuals\, and the unexpected. While his musical style can be broadly classified as trap\, it’s extraordinarily unique\, versatile\, and fuses various textures from multiple genres. He is of Nigerian\, Indian\, Chinese\, and Portuguese descent\, and credits this (along with growing up in London\, with its own blend of cultures and genres) for the diversity that is reflected in his music. Beyond his career releases which include his debut album Left Is Right (2017) and series of V!BEZ EPs in 2018 and 19\, his productions have caught the ear of major music stars. \nHis 2018 remix of Billie Eilish’s “MyBoi-TroyBoi Remix” has garnered almost 79 million Spotify streams and in 2019\, Rihanna featured two of his songs “Do You?” and “Malokara” at her SavagexFenty show\, seen globally via Amazon Prime during New York Fashion Week. TroyBoi’s sound has evolved from when he began his musical journey to now headlining at some of the world’s largest festival stages such as Coachella\, Lollapalooza (Chicago & Paris)\, Life Is Beautiful\, HARD\, EDC China and Electric Zoo\, Sunset Music Festival\, just to name a few as well as holding down a new residency at Elia Beach Club in Las Vegas. While the music industry was at a stand still due to the pandemic\, Troy was working on new music/collaborations to come back stronger and more innovative as ever once live music was back. And Boi did he. In 2020 released\, his highly anticipated V!BEZ Vol.4 featuring top hits like\, “Do You” and “Bellz.” \nOne of his first festival appearances post pandemic\, was the long-awaited return of Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco\, where Troy had one of the largest crowds in the history of the festival. In early 2021\, he released more hits like \, “Mad Ting\, Buss It\, and of course “RedEye” with Justin Bieber which currently has over 48 million streams on Spotify. \nIn 2022\, Troy was hard at work on a brand new EP and headlining more festivals and shows worldwide. Troy has a true love and inspiration for Latin Music and he has plans to pay homage to that in his new EP titled “INFLUENDO.” He was inspired to complete this project due his reflection of his admiration for the culture during his travels throughout various countries. \nw/ special guest \nMr. Carmack\nmrcarmack.com\ninstagram.com/mr_carmack\nsoundcloud.com/mr_carmack \n“Make music like no one’s listening” is the motto of Aaron Carmack\, and appropriately so. His story is a three-part series\, divided into factions of past\, present\, and future. Every element of the past\, as Aaron Carmack would explain\, has had an effect on who he is today as both a writer/producer and DJ. Being born and raised in San Francisco\, attending and dropping out of college in Long Beach\, CA\, moving to Oahu for three years and living off income from monthly releases on Bandcamp – Carmack’s music is an expression and perpetual reflection of all of it. \nConstantly translating personal experience into his craft\, Carmack finds inspiration from a range of sources\, from his friends and fellow musicians in production cliques\, Team Supreme and Soulection\, to his travels and numerous sold out tours of five continents over the past two years\, sharing stages with folks like Hudson Mohawke\, Just Blaze\, Cashmere Cat\, and Diplo. These influences\, combined with a hunger for discovering the newest\, most cutting-edge sounds on sites like Soundcloud\, are some of the ingredients to the now-Los Angeles-based producer’s distinct creative process. \nLike a hinge to the doorway between dance music and hip hop\, Carmack’s musical output increasingly occupies a void frontier between the two genres\, identified by his contemporaries\, fans\, and himself purely as “Carmack”. With a devotion to the studio and a grinding work ethic\, the inventive producer aims to release a prolific amount of music in coming months\, all while performing as often as possible. Stay tuned. \nMORE TBA \nProduced by\nMNM Presents\nmnmpresents.com

SUMMARY:THUNDERCAT: IN YO GIRLS CITY TOUR
DESCRIPTION:THUNDERCAT: IN YO GIRLS CITY TOUR\nSaturday October 14\nBuffalo Riverworks\nDoors / Show 7pm 16+ \ntwitter.com/Thundercat\ntiktok.com/@thundercat\ninstagram.com/thundercatmusic\nyoutube.com/@thundercatmusic \nThundercat (Stephen Bruner) released his most recent album\, It Is What It Is\, in the spring of 2020. The record won Best Progressive R&B Album at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards and features musical contributions from Ty Dolla $ign\, Childish Gambino\, Lil B\, Kamasi Washington\, Steve Lacy\, Steve Arrington\, BADBADNOTGOOD\, Louis Cole\, Pedro Martins and Zack Fox. Thundercat produced the record with his longtime partner Flying Lotus\, who was GRAMMY-nominated in the “Producer of the Year” category for his work on the album. \nIt Is What It Is follows Bruner’s game-changing third album Drunk (2017)\, which completed his transition from virtuoso bassist to bonafide star and cemented his reputation as a unique voice that transcends genre. “This album is about love\, loss\, life and the ups and downs that come with that\,” Bruner says about It Is What It Is. Concurrently\, the tragic passing of his friend Mac Miller in September 2018 had a profound effect on Thundercat and the making of It Is What It Is. “Losing Mac was extremely difficult\,” he explains. “I had to take that pain in and learn from it and grow from it. It sobered me up… it shook the ground for all of us in the artist community.” Thundercat poignantly describes the album as “a bit tongue-in-cheek\, but at different points in life you come across places that you don’t necessarily understand… some things just aren’t meant to be understood.” Clearly\, however\, fans understood It Is What It Is\, an unexpectedly apt title for when it arrived. In addition to its Grammy win\, the album and its songs landed on dozens of year-end lists and roundups at Pitchfork\, Stereogum\, NPR\, Vulture\, and Allmusic to name a few. \nPrevious releases include The Golden Age of Apocalypse (2011)\, Apocalypse (2013)\, followed by EP The Beyond / Where The Giants Roam featuring the modern classic “Them Changes.” He was later “at the creative epicenter” (per Rolling Stone) of the 21st century’s most influential hip-hop album Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly\, where he won a Grammy for his collaboration on the track “These Walls” before releasing his third album Drunk in 2017. \nOutside of his solo work\, Thundercat keeps busy across numerous genres. In 2021\, his dreamy vocals and masterful bass playing feature on “Black Gold\,” the theme song for the Netflix original anime Yasuke\, soundtracked by Flying Lotus. In addition\, Thundercat recently collaborated on releases from Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars & Anderson Paak)\, HAIM\, H.E.R.\, and Kaytranada\, as well as contributing an original song for the final season and soundtrack from HBO’s ‘Insecure.’ \nThundercat’s latest work has seen him branching outside of music\, making his television debut with a recurring role as The Modifier in the Star Wars series ‘The Book of Boba Fett\,’ and appearing as the face of recent fashion/brand campaigns for Kerwin Frost and Kenny Beats\, as well as attending Paris Fashion Week as a guest of Spanish luxury designer LOEWE. \nThe name Thundercat refers to the cartoon he’s loved since childhood and an extension of his wide-eyed\, vibrant\, often superhuman approach to his craft. In 2020 things came full circle when Bruner voiced a character (and penned a song) named “Grune the Destroyer” in Cartoon Network’s Thundercats Roar animated series. \nProduced by\nMNM Presents

SUMMARY:BUFFALO NICHOLS
DESCRIPTION:Buffalo Nichols celebrates the release of his new album live at Buffalo Iron Works on Wednesday October 18th\, 2023! \nBuffalo Nichols \nOn his second album\, The Fatalist\, Carl “Buffalo” Nichols does things with the blues that might catch you off guard. There’s 808 programming\, chopped up Charley Patton samples\, washes of synth. There’s a consideration of the fullness of the sonic stage and the atmospherics of the music that can only come with a long engagement with electronic music. But this is no gimmicky hybrid or attempt to turn the blues into 21st century music by simply dressing it with skittering hi-hats. Nichols’ vision for the blues is of a form of music that’s intimately tied to every day life in 2023\, something that’s reflected not only in the choice of instrumentation\, but in the complexities of the songwriting and the gray areas his lyrics explore. This is music that comes straight from the present\, and as such\, it’s a reminder that the same shit that drove the first blues singers to pick up a guitar is still present behind the throbs of deep bass hits today. The Fatalist sounds unlike any blues record you’re likely to hear in 2023. \nOf course\, Nichols’ songwriting has always been firmly rooted in the present. He proved he could succeed on the music industry’s own blues terms on his self-titled 2021 debut\, whose songs\, Band camp Daily said\, “seem to flow from some great repository of emotion and insight.” The Fatalist finds him digging deeper in search of answers to ever-more-complicated questions around responsibility and self-definition\, his plainspoken lyrics both cutting and refreshing in their sincerity and refusal to accept pat solutions. Over a guitar line that blisters and pops with bright sunshine\, he holds forth on the simple everyday power of love in “Love is All\,” and when he shades his optimism with a clear-eyed view of “bad behavior in the canon of good men\,” as he sings\, his guitar line goes cloudy with the thought. He slowly walks around a broken relationship in “The Difference\,” trying to find the faults. It’s a decidedly modern breakup song\, one steeped in moral ambiguity. “I just don’t know the difference between love and sympathy\,”he sings\, before hoping his once-beloved “won’t forget the one who kept your ego fed.” \nStill\, Nichols rarely sounds like a blues singer. Like Leonard Cohen\, he dominates these songs with his voice. His low\, guttural baritone is high in the mix\, and he sounds coiled\, clenched tight. The slow drip of his songwriting lends TheFatalist an incredible amount of drama\, which the production—at times dark and dewy and claustrophobic\, at times zippy with light—further emphasizes. \nNichols produced the album himself at home\, having recently returned to Milwaukee following a few years in Austin.“Being back in Milwaukee reminded me of why I started making music in the first place. It got me away from the industry-town’ mentality\,” he says. “There’s definitely a certain work ethic that comes from being in a city likeMilwaukee. There are no clear paths to success and not many examples of ‘making it\,’ so people end up creating their own path and developing a broad skill set to sustain a career as an artist.” \nThat personal touch is evident in how considerately these songs have been framed. “In a lot of ways I was improvising\,” he says\, and he leaned on his years of experience as a DIY musician—and the songs themselves—to guide him. “Drum machines are a 50-year-old technology. If the blues hadn’t been hijacked and trapped in amber\, I think they naturally would’ve been incorporated.” The drum programming throughout feels like a natural rhythmic vehicle for these songs. “When you pick up a guitar\, the first thing you’re gonna play is the blues\,” he says. “And when you pick up an 808\, you’re gonna start doing trap beats.” \nThe album’s most ambitious song is Nichols’ dusky take on Blind Willie Johnson’s “You’re Gonna Need SomebodyOn Your Bond.” As he sings of salvation and relief\, Nichols creates a soundscape that teems with the joyous claustrophobia of classic gospel. Triggers of Charley Patton’s version connect the earliest blues recordings to the present\, both singers’ voices urgent in their message. “It’s important for contemporary musicians to play these old songs sometimes\,” Nichols says. “I always keep traditional songs in my set and on my records because I remember how important it was for me to hear somebody interpret a song in a way that made sense to me.” \nNichols further draws the past into the present in “The Fatalist Blues\,” a song that simmers with unanswered questions and quotes the classic blues song “Samson and Delilah.” “That was a question that stayed on my mind\,”Nichols says. “If you’re raised in a violent environment\, are you destined to become that\, or can you do something to change that?” The song finds Nichols testing the boundaries of will—“If I had my way I would fill my whole world with love\,” he sings\, and the implication is he’s not sure if he has his way or not. Even as that ambiguity gives the song a greater sense of dramatic tension\, uncertainty also carries within it the glimmer of hope\, and the imperative to try. \nThe stakes throughout this album are largely personal\, rather than social; Nichols is singing about his life in the first person\, and about his desire to forge his own individuality in a world and a music industry that make it nearly \nimpossible to do so. Ringing through “The Fatalist Blues”—and The Fatalist—is a simple question: Do I have any sayin how things are going to go? It’s the question behind so much of the physical and psychic pain in the blues\, and in a frustrating age that preaches self-empowerment and shames the disenfranchised\, it’s a stridently modern question\, too. By playing his music the way he wants to play it\, by refusing to give up his creative control or accept any one else’s definition of the blues or indeed his own life\, Carl Nichols has tried to forge an answer. Does he have any sayin how things are going to go? Let’s find out. \nBuffalo Iron Works \n49 Illinois St Buffalo\, NY 14203 \nTickets: $15 ADV/$20 DOS \nDoors: 7:00pm \nShow: 8:00pm \nAges: 18+

SUMMARY:MELVIN SEALS & JGB – BUFFALO IRON WORKS 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for Buffalo Iron Works 10 Year Anniversary! \nMelvin Seals & JGB return to Buffalo Iron Works on Thursday October 19th\, 2023! \nMelvin Seals & JGB \nMelvin Seals has been a powerful presence in the music industry for over 30 years with a long-established reputation as a performer\, recording artist and producer. Melvin is most revered for his powerful\, high-spirited\, Hammond B-3 organ\, and keyboards in the Jerry GarciaBand. Melvin spun his B-3 magic with the Jerry Garcia Band for 18 years and in doing so helped pioneer and define what has now become “Jam BandMusic”. From blues to funk to rock to jazz\, Melvin Seals serves up a tasty mix with a little R&B and gospel thrown in to spice things up. \nMelvin and JGB bring an intuitive\, expressive style\, soul\, spontaneity and remarkable chops to the table. John Kadlecik on lead guitar and vocal duties\, John-Paul McLean’s savory bass\, Jeremy Hoenig on the drums and\, of course\, a heapin’ helpin’ of the wizard’s magic on HammondB-3 Organ and keyboards. Their chemistry is the focus from which they create a spontaneous and high art where the sky is the limit musically. They offer an exciting\, often psychedelic musical journey that changes nightly and keeps the audience dancing and smiling (and some staring in amazement) for hours. \nAdding his rock-gospel-soul-rhythm and blues touch with his funky style of playing\, no wonder Jerry nicknamed him”Master of the Universe”. Melvin continues to treat music lovers to his unique brand of melodic flavor with JGB. Come see and hear for yourself! \nBuffalo Iron Works \n49 Illinois St Buffalo\, NY 14203 \nTickets: $38 ADV/$45 DOS \nDoors: 7:00pm \nShow: 8:00pm \nAges: 18+

The group stands out as an artistic project that highlights feminine poetry and voices. Creating an experience that connects the spectator with distinct emotions\, one is taken on voyage through multiple rhythms\, accompanied by traditional string instruments such as the harp and the jarana\, percussion and zapateado\, poetic improvisation in rhyme and the projection of visual effects. Offering an assortment of colors\, textures and images to diverse and multi-generational audiences\, the ensemble is defined by an original aesthetic concept that unites the traditional with the vanguard in a contemporary stage proposal. \nSince its formation in 2007\, the group has carried the seal of feminine strength and beauty within the traditionally masculine world of Mexican son. \nThe sounds of the strings interweave with the poetic messages written from a woman’s perspective\, creating a facet not before seen within this musical genre. \nThe zapateado (percussive dance) on the tarima (wooden platform) accentuates the beat\, while the band’s colorful wardrobe embellishes their musicality. Appealing instrumental landscapes include the captivating vibrations of the horse jaw\, the profound and mystical harmonies of the harp\, the percussive atmosphere created by the jarana\, the robust rhythm of the guitarra grande\, and the renaissance-sounding bowed instruments created ex profeso for the group\, resurrecting extinct baroque instrumentation. \nThe tour for Caña Dulce y Caña Brava in the United States has been supported by the Mexican Minister of Culture and Ibermúsicas \nAbout Global Grooves \nThe Global Grooves music series\, aims to bridge cultures and ignite a shared passion for music. Through captivating performances which highlight a variety of cultures\, it celebrates the rich tapestry of musical traditions from around the world\, fostering cross-cultural understanding\, appreciation\, and unity among the beautifully diverse community of WNY.
