SUMMARY:Collage Plein-Air Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Collage Plein-Air Workshop\nCreating with Paper Outdoors\n\n\nMay 22\, 2024 10:30am — 1:00pm\n\n\n\nArtist/Instructor: Sara Baker Michalak \nFee: $37 for members/$47 for not-yet-members \n  \nRegister Here\n  \nAbout the Workshop \nJoin the fun as we collage from life. With a palette of papers\, we’ll “paint” pictures from vantage points in and around BPAC. Inspired by the exhibition\, Adjacent Spaces: Paintings by Mark Lavatelli and Karen Tashjian. Their real-world depictions and points of view will jumpstart our own considerations of design and process. In this hands-on collage workshop participants will select a scene (inside or outside\, weather permitting) and explore paper’s many and diverse expressive possibilities. The workshop will end with gathering back together with a group share\, for those who wish to. \nAbout the Artist \nSara Baker Michalak has a BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of American Crafts. As environmental issues emerged and became a focus for artists she returned to school for an MA\, Interdisciplinary Studies (Humanities/Geoscience) at SUNY Fredonia\, NY.  Sara has exhibited her collage and mixed media artworks at the American Craft Museum; Burchfield Penny Art Center and in ‘Western NY Artists’ shows at Albright Knox in Buffalo; and at Roger Tory Peterson Institute’s Art That Matters to the Planet. As a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists\, Sara shows at many regional galleries. Solo shows include at the Crary Art Gallery\, Warren PA; VIEW in Old Forge NY\, TCAC in Olean NY and at the Houghton College Art Gallery.  In addition\, she engages with street art and public collage projects in the region and beyond. Sara’s work is included in BPAC’s Collection\, MERZ Gallery in Sanquihar\, UK and the Ontological Museum\, SantaFe NM. Follow Sara Baker Michalak on Instagram. \n  \nSupply List: \n2 pcs. mixed media or drawing paper\, 110lb.\, no smaller than 9 x 12″ \nAssorted papers of various colors; pieces organized in envelopes by color. \nHard surface (clipboard\, or Masonite-type board and binder clips) a little larger than paper size \nGlue stick and scissors \nBring a folding chair or blanket to sit on \n  \nFor further information contact Kathy Shiroki: shirokkg@buffalostate.edu
