About Claudine Ewing
Claudine’s professional career began in radio news, where she worked as a news anchor and reporter covering Western New York and Southern Ontario. After graduating from Buffalo State College with a degree in Broadcast Journalism with Honors, she started at WBEN radio. There, she quickly advanced from overnight shifts to becoming the afternoon drive news anchor.
Claudine’s life motto is: “Expect nothing, appreciate everything, keep grinding!” Her dedication and hard work have earned her numerous accolades throughout her career. She is an Emmy winner and, in 2004, received the Young Alumnus Achievement Award from her alma mater.
Over the years, Claudine has been recognized for her outstanding work in journalism, receiving multiple awards and nominations. In 2023, she garnered several Emmy nominations for her work as a news anchor, her coverage of a mass shooting in Buffalo, and a story about a man returned to prison over a clerical error. She has also won multiple NABJ Salute to Excellence awards, including recognition for her Spot News coverage of a white supremacist attack on a grocery store and a story titled “Preemie Goes to College,” which followed a girl’s journey from premature birth to high school graduation.
In addition to these honors, Claudine received the 2023 NYS Broadcasters Association Award for Outstanding Public Affairs Program for commUNITY, the Buffalo Spree Best Reporter (Broadcast) award, and the NFJC Community Healing Award. She has also been acknowledged by the New York State Associated Press for General Excellence in Individual Reporting and won a national award from the NABJ in 2014 for her sports story “The Smart Football Scholar,” which highlighted the rise of Penn State graduate John Urschel.
Claudine’s memorable stories include helping a young girl achieve a Guinness World Record for limbo performance and advocating for tougher state penalties for repeat child abusers, resulting in the establishment of Jay J’s Law. She has also received several awards from the Associated Press for special news series and breaking news.
Claudine is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the Buffalo Association of Black Journalists. She serves on the board of the P.U.N.T. Pediatric Cancer Collaborative and the Buffalo State College Alumni Association. In her free time, Claudine enjoys reading the Bible, traveling, attending live music and sporting events, and spending time with her family.
