About Terrell Carter
Growing up in Buffalo
Terrell Carter was born in Buffalo, NY on August 13th, 1975. Today Terrell Carter has become a triple-threat as a actor, singer, and songwriter. Growing up in Buffalo helped him to become who he is today.
When Carter was young, he found a purpose in music and the church community. His grandmother and great-grandmother provided him with a ton of love and support throughout his journey. Carter beat the limitations that had been placed upon him by having strong determination.
As his love for music grew, he began singing in a church in Detroit where he was discovered by Fred Hammond, a gospel artist. Carter spent 5 years touring with Hammond and his group, Radical for Christ, which marked the beginning of his career in the entertainment industry.
A Rising Star onto the Big Screen
One of Carter’s first big appearances on the big screen was in Tyler Perry’s Diary of a Mad Black Woman where he played Reverend Carter and sang “Father Can You Hear Me”. He has also appeared in Think Like A Man Too. Both of these movies debuted at number one in the country. For several years Carter toured as a lead in the Perry-produced plays, Madea’s Class Reunion, Meet the Browns, and What’s Done in the Dark. Carter was also in the tv show, Empire in 2017.
Breaking Into the Music Industry
After Carter spent some time touring with Hammond, he was signed by Quincy Jones to work in music publishing as a singer-songwriter. Carter has worked with many different artists over the years such as Patti LaBelle, Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, and Christina Aguilera.
“The Problem Child”
In 2020, Carter wrote a book called “The Problem Child” talking about his life growing in East Buffalo. Carter talks about how his childhood was deeply impacted by his mother’s intellectual disability and the difficult circumstances surrounding his upbringing.
