Hikes and Trails
Niagara Gorge Trailhead Center
The Niagara Gorge Trailhead Center is where all the hiking starts. It’s your gateway to some top-notch hiking and biking trails around. The local Gorge Trail System has everything – from easy paths you can breeze through to tougher sections with steep climbs and rocky challenges.
Guided Niagara Gorge hiking tours are offered mid-May through October.

Great Gorge Scenic Overlook Hike
Begins at the Trailhead Building and is an easy one-hour hike

Upper Great Gorge Hike
The Upper Gorge Trail offers a gradual climb to the top where it meets up with the rim trail that crosses the Power Plant to Devil’s Hole State Park, traveling underneath the Lewiston – Queenston Bridge. Another great trail for beginners, this easy, two-hour round trip hike begins at the Trailhead Building and follows the Great Gorge Railway Trail.

Devil’s Hole Rapids and Giant Rock
As a more moderate trail, guests hiking Devil’s Hole Rapids and Giant Rock must be at least 8 years of age. The trail begins at Devil’s Hole State Park and is a moderate level 2.5-hour hike round trip.
Whirlpool Rapids Adventure Hike
One of the most challenging trails that Niagara Falls State Park has to offer, the Whirlpool Rapids Adventure Hike is recommended for experienced hikers, who are at least 8 years of age. The trail begins at Whirlpool State Park, and is a three-hour hike round trip, where you can expect some boulder hopping.
Goat Island Scenic Walk
Discover this 1.9-mile loop trail near Niagara Falls, New York. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 40 min to complete.

Niagara Scenic Parkway Trail
The Niagara Scenic Parkway Trail, formerly known as the Robert Moses Recreational Trail, spans nearly 4 miles beginning at Main Street in Niagara Falls. From there, it heads north past the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center and winds along the Niagara River through a series of state parks. From the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center, adventurers can also pick up the Great Gorge Railway Trail to descend closer to the river. And, on the opposite bank, the Devil’s Hole Trail also offers a hiking excursion.

The best starting point is located adjacent to the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center, on the northeast end of Niagara Falls State Park.

Schoellkopf Power Station Trail
This stop is a great place to start a hike in the Niagara Gorge! With multiple trails and paths starting here, you can choose a flat easy gorge rim path or a more challenging hike down into the Niagara Gorge to the Niagara River.

Artpark Gorge Trail
Discover this 2.6-mile out-and-back trail near Lewiston, New York. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 1 h 0 min to complete.

Rivers Edge Trail
Trail alongside Artpark, travels along a ravine and is used for hiking and biking. Hiking area along the Niagara River. The River’s Edge Trail provides access to fishing by two staircases.

Shoreline Trail
The Shoreline Trail in Erie County, New York, is 21.7 miles of flat, easy pathway that runs adjacent to Lake Erie, one of the country’s Great Lakes, on its southern half and then along the Niagara River on its northern half. The trail traverses the west end of Buffalo and is located just south of the famed Niagara Falls and near the Canadian border. It ends in Tonawanda, where you can pick up two more trails for more riding: the Two Mile Creek Greenway and the Tonawanda Rails to Trails.

Your adventure begins at the Observation Tower, where visitors receive a commemorative rain poncho before boarding the two-tiered tour vessel. The boat voyage takes you close to the American Falls and into the heart of Horseshoe Falls, offering an awe-inspiring perspective of the turbulent waters and towering rock faces. Old Fort Niagara
Old Fort Niagara, with a history spanning three centuries, played a key role in America’s colonial conflicts. Located at the entrance of the Niagara River, it controlled access to the Great Lakes and North America’s heart. Its significance declined after the Erie Canal’s opening in 1825, but it remained a military base into the 1900s.
From 1929 to 1934, the fort was restored and is now managed by the Old Fort Niagara Association, Inc., a non-profit organization, in partnership with the New York State Parks Department. It’s supported by entrance fees, shop sales, donations, and grants. The Association encourages public membership to help preserve this historic site.
