#OnThisDay In 1976, Buffalo’s first Juneteenth celebration/festival is held! The B.U.I.L.D., an community organization, comprised of community leaders, activists and concerned citizens, focused on the betterment of the lives of all, put together the celebration. B.U.I.L.D. went out with the purpose to create a culutural alternative for Blacks in Buffalo to serve as a counterpart to the Bicentennial Celebration.

The first Juneteenth festivals were initially held on Jefferson Avenue. which served as “The Main Street” for Buffalo’s Black community. Did you or any of your relatives get to go to this first Juneteenth celebration.

Happy Juneteenth to all of our Born Buffalo followers!
