#OnThisDay In 2021, India Walton wins the Democratic Primary for Mayor of Buffalo. Walton was not only the just first woman ever to do so but also the first socialist to win the primary. Walton’s grassroots campaign took the city by storm for a good year or so.
Unfortunately, Walton ended up losing to the incumbent and current Mayor, Byron Brown, after a successful write-in campaign by Brown. Brown has been Mayor since 2006.
