#OnThisDay In 1885, Buffalo’s first polish language newspaper, Ojczyzna begins publishing. Meaning “Homeland” in Polish, the newspaper aimed to unite Poles across WNY as well as providing themselves better representation and influence in their communities.

Evenutally, the paper was renamed to Polak w Ameryce, which translates to “The Pole In America”. The paper began to publish until 1920.
