#OnThisDay In 1861, Buffalo’s Mayor William Ketchum patents the aptly named “Ketchum Grenade”. Following it’s invention, the grenade was paritally adopted by the Union forces during the Civil War. Most notably, the grenade was used in the Battles of Vicksburg and Petersburg.
