#OnThisDay In 1926, Buffalo Municipal Airport opens. The airport initially opened with a single hangar, four cinder runways and a smallk terminal.For the airport to be built, they repurposed 500 acres of farmland. Eventually it was acquired by the Niagara Frontier Port Authority in 1956 and was later renamed to Greater Buffalo International Airport in 1959. It is now known as Bufffalo Niagara International Airport.
