#OnThisDay In 1959, the cornerstone is laid for the new Deaconess hospital. Originally starting their operations on Riley Street in 1895 as German Deaconess Hospital, they moved to Humboldt Parkway in the early 1960s. The hospital then closed in 1986 and was demolished in 2012.
