In 1977, the National Guard and U.S. Army are called in to assist in minimizing he disaster of the Blizzard of ’77. They were both brought in to help clear snow, rescue stranded people and to provide medical assistance and supplies. President Jimmy Carter had declared a federal disaster for 9 counties in WNY.
