About Historic Palace Theatre
The Historic Palace Theatre in Lockport, NY, is a grand 1925 neo‑classical gem built by Charles Dickinson. Originally seating around 1,700, the venue showcased live vaudeville and silent films, featuring a majestic Wurlitzer organ, ornate murals, and a gold-domed ceiling.
After leasing to the Schine Circuit in 1928, it underwent interior updates by renowned architect John Eberson in the 1930s. The theatre faced closures in 1969 and again in 1981, enduring phases as both a cinema and a church before being revived by Curtain Up Productions in 1999.
Purchased in 2003 by Historic Palace Theatre Inc., a local non-profit, the venue has since anchored downtown Lockport’s cultural scene. A comprehensive $3.5 million restoration—supported by state grants and community contributions—culminated in its reopening in May 2021, featuring modern stage rigging, upgraded seating, concessions, a deeper orchestra pit and restored murals
Today, the theatre seats approximately 1,100 guests, and continues its mission of delivering Broadway-style musicals, local productions, concerts, and educational programs—truly “extending Broadway to the people of Niagara”
