About Grand Island LL Baseball and Softball
Grand Island Little League offers a well-structured house program for boys and girls aged 4-15, featuring multiple divisions in both baseball and softball. The youngest players begin in the Junior Viking Academy with Co-ed T-Ball (ages 4-5) focused on basic skills and fun, without umpires or competitive standings. As they grow, kids move through Pee Wee (5-6U), International (8U, using a pitching machine), Minors (10U), Majors (12U), and 50/70 Baseball (14U), each level adding more advanced rules, umpires, and playoff competition.
On the softball side, divisions mirror the baseball progression: International (8U), Minors (10U), Majors (12U), and Seniors (14U), all featuring increasing levels of instruction, competitive structure, and rule-sets appropriate to age. Games are scheduled on weekdays and Saturdays, and team assignments are done by draft with efforts made to accommodate player requests. The overall focus is on skill development, enjoyment, and participation, with opportunities for players to advance and compete as they mature.
Grand Island Little League offers competitive travel opportunities through its Vikings Baseball and Lady Vikings Softball programs. These teams, spanning multiple age groups, provide players the chance to develop skills in a more advanced, high-level setting. Travel teams compete in regional tournaments and attend practices beyond the regular season, emphasizing teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship while giving athletes valuable experience against strong competition.
