Buffalo is a city steeped in brewing history, and now, thanks to the passion and perseverance of two brothers, a new chapter is being written. BriarBrothers Brewing Company is the brainchild of Dylan and Joel Betti, two Western New York natives whose love for craft beer turned from a hobby into one of Buffalo’s most exciting new breweries.
From Home Brew to Hometown Brewery
For Dylan and Joel, beer has always been more than just a drink—it’s a way to bring people together. Whether it was stocking up on Genesee Light for a Buffalo Bills game or showing up to Thanksgiving dinner with a fresh local growler, the Betti brothers were always the ones making sure no one’s glass was empty.
But the journey to becoming brewery owners started with a simple Christmas gift. In 2017, Joel, running out of ideas for Dylan’s holiday present, grabbed a “Make Your Own Beer” kit at the last minute. The kit sat untouched in a closet for months until a blizzard left the brothers stuck indoors with nothing but time. That fateful day, they brewed their first-ever batch of beer, unknowingly setting the foundation for what would become BriarBrothers Brewing.
With each new brew day, their skills sharpened, and their ambitions grew. Countless hours of research, trial and error, and a growing appreciation for the art of brewing led them to a dream: opening a brewery of their own.
A Historic Home: The Silos at Elk Street
In keeping with Buffalo’s deep-rooted brewing tradition, BriarBrothers Brewing found its home at 50 Elk Street, inside the Silos at Elk Street. Once a major producer of brewers malt that supplied barley to breweries across the region—from Syracuse to Erie—these silos carry a rich brewing legacy that the Betti brothers are honored to continue.
Located just a short drive from downtown Buffalo and conveniently near Larkinville, KeyBank Center, the Old First Ward, and the Buffalo River, the brewery offers both a unique atmosphere and a deep connection to the city’s past.
