#OnThisDay In 1863, The Buffalo Stockyards are founded and opened to the public on William Street, in between Fillmore and Bailey, by Dean Richmond. The Stockyards was a 100-acre livestock market in East Buffalo. In the 1880s. the Stockyards made Buffalo the world’s second largest livestock market. The Stockyards eventually closed down in 1964, with a Post Office being built in its place. There is a historical marker lolcated at this post office.
