#OnThisDay In 1984, groundbreaking ceremony for the NFTA’s Metro Rail project takes place. In the not so distant past, electric streetcars used to run all across Buffalo. The Metro Rail was a way for the NFTA to recapture that ‘magic’ and bring folks back into the city center.

The Metro Rail line started at UB’s South Campus, running all the way under Main Street down to the Arena, then the Memorial Auditorium.
