#OnThisDay In 1874, the very first Chautauqua Assembly is held in Chautauqua, New York. This meeting marked the beginning of the Chautauqua Movement, which pushed forth an intense desire for self-improvement through education.
From this meeting, education stopped just involving religious studies and expanded into academics, music, arts and physical education.
