#OnThisDay In 1880, The Buffalo Fire Department is established. Prior to the BFD’s formation, the fire fighting efforts in the City of Buffalo were carried out by a series of unpaid, volunteer fire “departments”. At the time of Buffalo Fire Deparment was in possession of three hook & ladder stations, five chemical wagons, fifteen hose carts and one hundred eighty firemen.
