#OnThisDay In 1889, Buffalo’s first electric streetcars began operation. The “experimental” first car ran a line from Main Street and Michigan Street up to Delaware Park. Buffalo was once a amazing bustling city with a good handful of streetcar lines, making public travel throughout the city seamless. Unfortunately with the advent of cheaper automobiles and buses, the electric streetcars slowly fell to the wayside. In the 1940s, a majority of the streetcar lines were removed, a harbinger for the city’s downturn.
