The Ziegele Brewing Company is destroyed by a fire. The Brewery was founded by master of brewing, Albert Ziegele in 1850. After a few years on Genessee Street, he built a new structure on Main Street near Virginia Street in 1855. That new structure located on Main was unfortunately the one which had burnt years later in 1887.

Following the destruction of Ziegele Brewing, Albert retired and his sons took up the business in his absence. The Ziegele clan eventually reopened as the aptly named Phoenix Brewing not far from where their father made their family name, on the corner of Washington Street and Virgina Street. The Phoenix Brewing building still stands and is apartments now.
