#OnThisDay In 1873, Photographer Wilbur H. Porterfield is born. Although not from Buffalo originally, Porterfield quickly made it his home. While being heavily involved in Buffalo’s Art Scene, Porterfield co-founded the Photo-Pictorialists of Buffalo, further stamping his legacy on photography in Buffalo.

Porterfield had received international acclaim with his photos, which oftentimes captured the nature and surroundings of Western New York. He was also colleagues and contemporaries with the painter, Charles Burchfield and many of Porterfield’s photographs can be seen at the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
