#OnThisDay In 1935, Jesse Clipper Square is dedicated. Notably, Jesse Clipper was a performer with his wife out west before moving to Buffalo. After some time after moving to Buffalo, Clipper was drafted into the army to fight in World War I. Unfortunately, Clipper lost his life during the war.

The square, named in his honor, was built and dedicated to pay respects to the important role that African Americans from Buffalo played in the First World War, to serve as a reminder of Clipper’s sacrifice.
