#OnThisDay In 1925, Bennett High School is dedicated. Designed by Ernest Crimi, he modeled the high school after Buckingham Palace. It is named afer civic leader Lewis J. Bennett, who donated the land that is was built on. When Bennett opened, it welcomed Buffalo’s largest freshman class of 1,150 students.
Notable alumni of Bennett High School include Rick James, Westside Gunn, Sorrel Booke (who played Boss Hogg on Dukes of Hazzard), Robert Rich Sr., NBA Hall of Famer Bob Lanier and Beverly Johnson (First Black Woman on cover of Vogue).
