#OnThisDay In 1977, Penn Dixie cement silos are demolished. Penn Dixie Cement Company stopped producing cement in Hamburg during the 70s, leaving the silos and a quarry. The quarry remained abandoned until 1990, when a group began to petition against industrial development there due to the vast collection of fossils present there. In 1995, it was reopned as Penn Dixie Fossil Park and Nature Reserve.
