#OnThisDay In 1948, there is a record turnout for Buffalo sports, within the city, of 50,988 people gathering to watch Kensington High play Bennett High in football at Civic Stadium, later known as War Memorial Stadium. The previous record was held from a Browns vs. Bills game with 43,167 in totality. The stadium’s occupancy was actually only 37,064, with so many folks jamming in, it was nicknamed the Elastic Bowl. Kensington won the game 26-8. I found some people claiming to be in attendance, claiming it was less people but all other sources point to just over 50,000 people.
