In 1943, Winifred Stanley takes congressional office. Stanley, who was originally born in the Bronx, grew up in Buffalo. During her service in Erie County, she became the first female assistant district attorney. She was also a staunch supporter of equal pay for women. Stanley held the office until 1945.
