About Beaver Meadow Nature Center
Beaver Meadow is a 364-acre nature preserve located in North Java, NY. The property includes a variety of natural features such as ponds, wetlands with a boardwalk trail, wooded uplands, meadows, an arboretum, and eight miles of well-marked trails. Notably, it is the only Buffalo Audubon property with a staffed nature center. Renovations to the first two floors of the nature center have been nearly completed, and the facility is now open to the public.
For the safety and comfort of all visitors and the wildlife that reside at Beaver Meadow, dogs and other pets are not allowed on the grounds. Most of the trails are low in elevation and easy to traverse.
Guests are welcome to bring snacks or a picnic to enjoy on the property but are requested to adhere to the carry-in/carry-out policy by taking all garbage with them, as trash cans are not available.
Families with children are encouraged to explore the nature play area, Storybook Trail, and Fairy House Lane. The nature play area, designed primarily for elementary-aged children, is located near the nature center. Fairy House Lane, accessible via Beaver Pond Trail, is also near the nature center. Storybook Trail can be found near the Arboretum and is accessible via Field Sparrow Trail.
Recommended family-friendly trails include Chipmunk Run, Beaver Pond Trail, Old Homestead Trail, and Jenny Glen Boardwalk. For those seeking a more challenging experience, Long Trail offers greater elevation and spans 1.5 miles.
The preserve is also accommodating to visitors with mobility concerns, providing access to the Jenny Glen Boardwalk.
