About Elm Street Bakery
The day at Elm Street Bakery begins with the bread bakers. Their first task is to sweep away the ash from the fire set the night before and clean the oven. They then retrieve the dough, which has been fermenting in bannetons (traditional French proofing baskets), to be baked in either the steam-injected ovens or the signature Alan Scott wood-fired masonry oven. Shortly afterward, the pastry chefs arrive, grab their morning coffee, and begin preparing the bakery’s breakfast selections. Offerings such as blueberry and coffee cake muffins, banana bread, lemon loaves, and cranberry bacon scones are among the many treats they bake each morning. The highlight of these options, however, is the daily variety of French pastries, or viennoiseries, which include croissants and pain au chocolat.
At dawn, the combination of aromas from freshly-roasted coffee (prepared with Elm Street Bakery’s German Probat roaster), sizzling bacon for breakfast sandwiches, and freshly-baked sourdough bread, bialys, wood-fired English muffins, and pastries create an ambiance that sets the tone for a magical start to the day.
Guests enjoy a range of breakfast dishes, including avocado toast on sourdough, smoked salmon bialys, and local yogurt parfaits. A perfectly crafted espresso drink, prepared by the skilled baristas, complements the meal, enhancing the overall experience.
At 11 a.m., the bakery transitions seamlessly into lunch service. By then, the chefs have already prepared the wood-fired pizza station, assembled fresh salads and sandwiches, and strained broths that simmered overnight. All soups are crafted in-house, using real bone or vegetable broths. Being a farm-to-table business, the menus evolve with the seasons, inspired by the ingredients sourced from the bakery’s network of local farmers.
The lunch and dinner menu features a changing selection of seasonal soups, salads, sandwiches, and wood-fired pizzas. Each dish is prepared in a traditional manner, following nature’s lead and relying on wholesome cooking methods without shortcuts, reminiscent of home-cooked meals by grandmothers of days past.
Once the daily bread has been baked and shelves are restocked, a new fire is built in preparation for the wood-fired pizzas featured on the lunch and dinner menu. Operating as an all-day café, Elm Street Bakery encourages guests to place their orders at the bakery counter, after which runners deliver selections directly to their tables. The bakery’s pizza dough, made with a biga starter and fermented overnight, creates signature thin-crust pizzas known for their digestibility and exceptional flavor. Guests are also invited to select a local craft beer or bottle of wine to accompany their meal. Co-owner Kim believes there’s nothing more quintessentially French than enjoying wine at the table.
After lunch, visitors may treat themselves to a variety of seasonal desserts, such as cakes, pies, macarons, or cookies.
To bring the Elm Street Bakery experience home, guests can browse the onsite market. The market offers an array of house-made items, including biscotti, granola, rosemary crackers, fine cheeses, dips, salad dressings, local Barrel and Brine ferments, batched cocktails, and other specialty condiments. Guests can also find frozen meal options like bake-at-home treats, stocks, soups, and more, ideal for throwing together a picnic or hosting a cocktail party with ease.
Elm Street Bakery invites everyone to become a part of its mission to build a vibrant local food community—a mission realized one happy customer at a time.
