About Glen falls

Nestled near the scenic Glen Falls, Glen Park is a serene walking park jointly owned by the Village of Williamsville and the Town of Amherst. Established in 1976 with funds from a federal grant, the park features a network of interconnecting ponds that have become a haven for ducks. Glen Park is a popular spot for activities like taking wedding photos, fishing, and enjoying nature walks.

Please note that, per Village code, no commercial solicitation or display is allowed within Glen Park without written permission from the Glen Park Joint Board and a permit issued by the Village or Town Clerk’s office.

As a strategic midway point between Fort Edward and Fort William Henry, the falls played a significant role during the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. The hamlet was largely destroyed by fire twice during the latter conflict, leading the Quakers to abandon the settlement until the war’s end in 1783. Glens Falls also suffered devastating fires in 1864, 1884, and 1902.

Today, Glens Falls boasts two historic districts listed on both the National Register of Historic Places and the New York State Register of Historic Places. The Fredella Avenue Historic District is notable for its unique concrete block structures, while the Three Squares Historic District encompasses much of the Central Business District. Despite these designations, Glens Falls does not have a local preservation law to protect its historic resources from demolition or alteration
