#OnThisDay In 1887, the Buffalo Public Library is dedicated on Lafayette Square, built on the site of a former courthouse. The elegant Romanesque brick structure was designed by Cyrus Eidlitz, who beat out Henry Robson Richardson, in an architectural competition of whose design would be used. The building touted intricately designed spires, chimneys and gargoyles. The building was demolished in the early 1960s for the new Central Library to be built in its place. Did you even know about this building? Did you ever get the chance to see it before it came down in the 60s?
