About Aaron Mentkowski
Aaron joined the 7 News team as a meteorologist in March 2000. He is the first and only Certified Broadcast Meteorologist in Buffalo and the 35th in the country to earn this designation from the American Meteorological Society, a mark of distinction and recognition.
Aaron serves as an adjunct professor of meteorology at Jamestown Community College and Buffalo State College and works as a forensic meteorologist for various law firms. He was inducted into the North Tonawanda High School Wall of Fame in 2006 and was nominated for Best Local Weatherman by Buffalo’s Art Voice magazine. In January 2009, Aaron appeared on “LIVE with Regis and Kelly” to discuss Buffalo’s snow. He also delivers live weather forecasts every afternoon for WJYE 96.1FM and WYRK 106.5FM.
A Lockport native who grew up in North Tonawanda, Aaron has been fascinated with weather from a young age. His experiences with snowstorms in Western New York sparked his passion for meteorology. After graduating from North Tonawanda High School, he attended the University at Buffalo and SUNY Oswego, where he studied Lake Effect Snow patterns and earned a BS in Meteorology.
Before returning to Buffalo, Aaron gained broadcast experience in Macon, Georgia, and Fort Myers, Florida, and provided weather forecasts for ski resorts and radio stations across North America.
In his spare time, Aaron enjoys playing soccer and ice hockey and holds a First Degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate. He and his wife Sharon are the proud parents of three young boys.
