Early Days in Buffalo

His skills on the field earned him a spot at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where he played from 1987 to 1991. His stellar college career eventually led to his induction into the VCU Athletics Hall of Fame, setting the stage for his professional breakthrough.

Professional Soccer Career

After finishing college, Dade moved seamlessly into professional soccer. His first notable stint came with the Dallas Rockets during the 1992 USISL season, where his performance earned him a spot on the First Team All-Star list. Shortly after, he was drafted by the Dallas Sidekicks in the Major Soccer League draft, though the league collapsed later that year. Undeterred, Dade joined the Baltimore Spirit in the National Professional Soccer League and made an immediate impact.

Dade’s versatility allowed him to excel in both indoor and outdoor soccer—a rare feat. Returning to the Sidekicks for the 1993 Continental Indoor Soccer League season, he left his mark by scoring the game-winning goal during the 1993 CISL Championship Series, securing the Sidekicks’ victory.

From 1997 to 2001, Dade played for the Dallas Burn (now FC Dallas) in Major League Soccer (MLS). Over five seasons, he established himself as a reliable and commanding defender, playing a crucial role for the team. His career came full circle when he returned to the Sidekicks to finish his professional playing days, completing a career that had seen victories, championships, and remarkable consistency.

Transition to Coaching

After retiring as a player, Eric Dade turned his attention to coaching—and he has been just as impactful off the field as he was on it. A holder of a USSF National “A” Coaching License, Dade began his coaching career in various roles, including time as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Jacksonville University, as well as Director of Coaching roles across several top programs in the United States.

One of his most significant contributions came as the Executive Director of the Armada Youth Academy, where he helped the club become one of the nation’s premier soccer programs. Under his leadership, Armada saw a dramatic increase in enrollment, won numerous championships, and helped hundreds of young athletes secure college soccer scholarships. His efforts even saw players progress to the U.S. National Team and professional leagues—a testament to his ability to nurture talent.

Bringing His Expertise Home

In 2019, Eric Dade returned to Buffalo as part of the WNY Flash Academy, where he currently serves as the Executive Director of Coaching. The move has allowed him to bring his invaluable experience home, helping to elevate the WNY Flash Academy into one of the region’s most successful youth soccer programs. Dade’s vision has shaped the academy’s approach to player development, with an emphasis on core skills, teamwork, and a pathway to higher levels of the game.
