About Dan Herbeck

Herbeck was born in Mineral Wells, Texas, and grew up in Amherst, New York. He graduated from Sweet Home High School in Amherst in 1972 and was inducted into the school’s Alumni Hall of Fame in 2012. After completing his studies at Erie Community College, Herbeck earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from St. Bonaventure University in 1978. He was later honored by being inducted into the Erie Community College Alumni Hall of Fame in 2013 and is also a member of the St. Bonaventure Mass Communications Wall of Fame.

Herbeck has been a writer for The Buffalo News since 1978. Alongside his frequent collaborators Lou Michel and Michael Beebe, he has received numerous national and state awards for investigative reporting on topics such as telemarketing fraud, bankruptcy fraud, government corruption, the New York state prison system, prescription drug abuse, and other issues.
