Jim Runfola
Runfola, an acclaimed saxophonist, has embodied the qualities of an influential musician. His musical journey began at 10 when his father introduced him to the saxophone for school. After graduating from Jamestown High School in 1984, Runfola pursued music theory and composition, earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from SUNY Fredonia.
Currently residing in Lockport, Runfola divides his time between serving as the music director at Erie Community College’s north campus in Williamsville and performing at various local and distant venues. Besides his renowned work with J.J. Swing, he has collaborated with notable artists such as the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Goo Goo Dolls, 10,000 Maniacs, Johnny Mathis, and Greg Lake.
Runfola’s musical endeavors extend beyond the United States. He has toured with Circus America and performed on Delta Queen Steamboat Company cruises. Additionally, he has entertained audiences in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia through Department of Defense contracts.
On the local front, Runfola has participated in over 50 musicals at Erie Community College and has composed three, one of which, “Zooma Zooma,” was honored with the “Best Musical” award in 2004.
