Join Just Buffalo Literary Center for an evening with literary legend John Irving who will talk about his creative process, the life of a writer, as well as his award-winning novel, The Cider House Rules.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

JOHN IRVING has written fifteen novels over the course of his prolific career, the majority of which have been international bestsellers. He has written some of the most acclaimed books of our time—among them The World According to Garp, The Cider House Rules, A Prayer for Owen Meany, and A Widow for One Year. Born in Exeter, New Hampshire, in 1942, his books explore themes of sexual difference and sexual intolerance, inequalities and discrimination.
ABOUT THE BOOK
First published in 1985, The Cider House Rules is set in rural Maine in the first half of the twentieth century. The novel tells the story of Dr. Wilbur Larch—saint and obstetrician, founder and director of the orphanage in the town of St. Cloud’s, ether addict and abortionist. This is also the story of Dr. Larch’s favorite orphan, Homer Wells, who is never adopted.
