#OnThisDay In 1922, The Lafayette Theater holds their grand opening at the corner of Washington St. and Broadway. The building was a 10-story office building with a theater. The theater’s interior was adorned with a lot of marble, murals, ornate accents and crystal chandeliers in leaded glass ceiling domes. In 1962, Benderson Development bought the building and in pure Buffalo fashion, they immediately demolished the theater for a parking for the attached office building, which was torn down in 1967. Did you ever get to go to the Lafayette Theater? Did you ever see it? Do you remember when they demolished it? This Buffalo history post was brought to you by Hi-Fi Hits Records and More!
