#OnThisDay In 1975, Minnie Riperton performs at New Century Theatre for her 2nd and last show in Buffalo, playing Kleinhans a year prior. Riperton is widely considered one the best voices ever in Soul music, pioneering the whistle note. Tragically, Riperton was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 1976 and passed away on July 12, 1979 at the age of 31. Riperton is also the mother of actor/comedian Maya Rudolph.
