#OnThisDay In 1927, The City of Buffalo is asked to preserve the Old Caslte at Fort Porter amidst the construction of the Peace Bridge. Fort Poerter, with the castle first built on site in 1836, was a former U.S. Army Eginees Corps fort, used throughout wars until 1919. The Castle was succesfully saved, moved 400 ft from its original site. It servefd as the HQ for the Buffalo’s Department of Parks until it was demolished in 1953 as the Peace Bridge was expanded.
