On This Day…
In 1974, The Prudential (Now Guaranty) Building is heavily damaged by a fire, gutting its upper five floors. Around this time, the building had also grown dilapidated and was threatened with demolition. Citizens and Senator Daniel Moynihan fought to save and restore the building, which was restored in the 1980s and still stands today.
